Morning Report (May 10): Ducks can Advance to the Second Round with a Win Tonight
"Their backs are against the wall and it's either win or go home for them. We know we're going to get their best."

The Ducks took part in their morning skate at Joe Louis Arena in preparation for tonight’s Game 6 matchup against the Detroit Red Wings.

Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau said there won’t be any changes in tonight’s lineup, so expect goaltender Jonas Hiller to get the start in net. Hiller has started every game of the series thus far.

With Anaheim leading the series 3-2, the Ducks have a chance at eliminating the Red Wings and advancing to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the winner of the Kings-Blues series.

Anaheim has won a Game 6 elimination game on every occasion in franchise history (three times: CQF vs. SJ in 2009, WCF vs. DET in 2007 and CSF vs. DAL in 2003). The club's all-time record in Game 6 situations is 7-2.

Boudreau said the Ducks will have to play their best hockey of the series if they want to beat Detroit tonight.

“If we’ve played the absolute best that we can play up to this date, it’s not going to be good enough,” he said. “So we’re going to have to play better.

“They’re going to be as desperate and come out as hard like there’s no tomorrow. They’re going to give it everything they’ve got.”

Ryan Getzlaf, who turns 28 today, says the Red Wings will bring their best effort in this do-or-die game.

“I expect a strong effort out of both sides,” Getzlaf said. “Their backs are against the wall and it’s either win or go home for them. We know we’re going to get their best.”

Adds Getzlaf, “I expected a long series. Playing these guys, it always is. You’re going to have to work for every inch you’ve got on the ice and for every win.”

NOTE: Toni Lydman, who was injured in Game 3 at Joe Louis Arena, did not travel with the team to Detroit. Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader, who was suspended two games for the hit that injured Lydman, returns for tonight’s game.  "We wish we had Toni,” Boudreau said. “He’s not on the trip. And he hasn’t skated since he got hit. Whether it’d be today or Sunday, I’ve got to believe it’d be hard for him to get back in the lineup."
