Season Overview
Francois Beauchemin, who turned 33 on June 4, appeared in his eighth full NHL season (his seventh with Anaheim), collecting six goals, 18 assists and 24 points, marking his second-highest point total through 48 games in his career. Playing on the right side for the first time since his junior hockey days, he led Anaheim in average time-on-ice (23:27), defensemen scoring and blocked shots, and co-led in plus/minus (+19).

Beauchemin Video Highlights

“Beauch" finished the season with his Iron Man streak at 159 consecutive games dating to February 11, 2011 at Calgary, and played with a torn ACL for approximately one month near the end of the season, Ducks Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Murray revealed during exit interviews.

Upon hearing of his injury, Ducks fans praised him for his toughness and dedication to the team, inspiring this graphic.

Beauchemin appeared in his seventh career postseason, all with Anaheim. He co-led the team in scoring (with Ryan Getzlaf), earning two goals, four assists and six points in seven games. Beauchemin paced the club in average TOI (25:22) and led all defensemen in shots (13).

Highlight
February 24 was a career night for Beauchemin, who factored in every Ducks goal in their 4-3 overtime victory over Colorado at Honda Center. His four-assist night was a career high for assists and points in a game, during a month in which he co-led all NHL blueliners in scoring with 12 points (1g/11a). Beauchemin also finished the month of February with a +11 rating.

By the Numbers
391, career games in a Ducks uniform for Francois Beauchemin over the course of seven seasons with Anaheim. Beauchemin ranks third all-time in games played by a Ducks defenseman, just 26 games shy for sole possession of second place (Vitaly Vishnevski).

Looking Forward
Beauchemin played in all situations for the Ducks, including the power play and penalty kill, and he’ll likely get the same workload next season. He was a top-pairing defenseman for the majority of the season, forming a reliable shutdown tandem with Sheldon Souray.

Despite having offseason knee surgery, Beauchemin is expected to make a full recovery and is hopeful to return in time for the start of the 2013-14 season.

Personal
Francois and his wife, Marie-Claude, reside in Tustin with their sons, Samuel and Cedric, and daughter, Emily during the season, and return to their native Sorel, Quebec during the offseason. He enjoys fishing, hunting and golfing, and loves to prepare spaghetti with his famous meat sauce, a secret family recipe. Lists The White House in Anaheim as his favorite OC restaurant. Before games, Beauchemin listens to the same playlist on his iPod, which includes a large selection of AC/DC music, his favorite band. His first job was delivering the Journal de Montreal newspaper every morning at 5 a.m.

He Said It
On transitioning into a right defenseman: “It wasn’t too difficult. I didn’t know how I’d react in a game-like situation. I was told last summer I was going to play the right side. The adjustment wasn’t too difficult to make. It’s been an easy adjustment, and I kind of like it more than the left side.”
