Murray Discusses the Draft, Other Topics
After his team made five selections in the NHL Draft at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Ducks Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Murray discussed the draft and other topics via conference call with reporters.

On trade discussions,
There wasn’t a lot of talk today. The last couple of days leading up to the draft, there was a lot of rumors circulating and I followed up, because I was interested in certain players if they were available, and I had to find out what the asking price was. Some teams have called us about certain players on our team. We have very good depth at the goaltending position and some teams are having issues there, so they’re calling to find out what we’re going to do with all of our goaltenders, which is a very nice problem to have.

On interest in free agent Vincent Lecavalier
,
I inquired about what exactly they were looking for as far as term and the money situation, and when I got to the bottom of that, we couldn’t get in that ballgame. So, we pulled ourselves out of the discussion.

On first round pick Shea Theodore,
We’re going to get him in here next week [for conditioning camp]. There are some things we want to work on and he wants to work on, and we’re going to start the process right now. We’re very excited to be able to get him. When you can get a big defenseman who skates like that and moves the puck like that, it’s good. The way the game is going, you’ve got to be able to move the puck and get it up the ice, and he can definitely do that. We were hoping he was still there when we got to pick.

On Theodore’s persona,
He’s a real down-to-earth kid. He was an excellent interview, he was fun. He’s got a little fire in his belly. He wants to grow and he agrees with our assessment on things he needs to work on, and he has no problem talking about that.

On the Saku Koivu negotiations,
We’re still talking. There are some elements in his contract we’re debating over. I expect to get that done within the next week or so. We’ve talked enough so that I’m not worried about it.

On Teemu Selanne's decision,
Nothing to report. I wish I had something to say, but I don’t.
