FIRS is the world governing body for roller sports and was established in 1924 in Switzerland. The Inline Hockey World Championships serve as the sport’s highest profile annual international tournament. The World Championships have grown from an inaugural 12 teams in 1995, to an expected 57 teams in 2013. Both amateur and professional players are eligible to compete in the Inline Hockey World Championships. The United States will return to their home soil to defend their title, defeating Canada in the finals last summer in Colombia. Several local players who grew up playing at Huntington Beach Inline are now competing on the biggest stage in front of friends and family, including Skyler Hoar, Josh Larichia and Mike Urbano.
