Postgame Notes and Quotes: Oct. 16 vs. Calgary
Postgame notes and quotes from Anaheim\'s 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames at Honda Center on October 16.
POSTGAME NOTES
Anaheim 3 vs. Calgary 2
Oct. 16, 2013
Honda Center
5-1-0, 10 Standings Points

The Ducks improved their 2013-14 record to 5-1-0, the first time in club history the team has won five of its first six contests. The club’s 10 points through six equals the best start in club history (4-0-2 in 2006-07).

Tonight’s win also marks the first time in club history the Ducks have gone 3-0-0 at HOME to start a season.

The Ducks have won five straight games, the third-longest streak in the NHL this season. The last time Anaheim won five straight was Mar. 6-14, 2013 (5-0-0).

Tonight marked the 108th game-winning goal of Teemu Selanne’s career, just one shy of matching Brendan Shanahan at fifth in all-time GWG.

Jakob Silfverberg has points in five of six contests this season (4-2=6).

Francois Beauchemin is a +11 over the last five games. His +8 rating on the season ranks tied for third in the NHL (many players).

The Ducks have now won 17 consecutive home games over the Flames, the longest home win streak vs. one opponent in franchise history. Anaheim has not lost at home to Calgary since Jan. 19, 2004.

The club’s opening five-game homestand closes with contests vs. Phoenix (Friday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m.) and Dallas (Sunday, Oct. 20, 5 p.m.) this weekend.

POSTGAME QUOTES
ANAHEIM DUCKS

Jakob Silfverberg
On Teemu’s goal
I think Mathieu [Perreault] put some pressure on the defenseman, and they kind of turned the puck over. It was a race between me and their other defenseman. I got to it before him, and I saw “T” [Teemu Selanne] in the middle, and I just tried to get the puck in there. He made a nice shot.

Teemu Selanne
On the goal

I broke two sticks for the first time in my career. I got the breakaway. Sometimes, you’ve got to be lucky.

Bruce Boudreau
On the game

I didn’t think we had much flow at all. We won, and we’re grateful we won. When you’re used to seeing what you saw in the previous few games, it’s hard to take.

CALGARY FLAMES

Mikael Backlund
On tonight's game
We had some mistakes early on and they had an early 2-0 lead. It’s tough against good teams to do that. [We had a] great kill there, we scored shorthanded and fought our way back. We were ok in the second period and in the third, I thought we were dominating. We were getting close but not close enough.

We gave up two goals that we didn’t have to. We have to remember our mistakes and look at the video to see what else. I thought we worked hard but came out a little sleepy, some of us. We have to get better and be ready to go right away because San Jose is coming hard just like Anaheim here. We have to be ready from the start. We can’t let them have a 2-0 lead.

Lee Stempniak
On tonight's game
They have been playing really well since the beginning of the season. We came out and sort of gave them all 3 goals. We gave them the first one 3-on-2, the next one was a turnover, and the last one was just a bad read. I thought we played pretty well other than a few of those. The first period was tough for us but we responded pretty well and against a team like that you can’t give them too many goals because they’re too good.

Bob Hartley
On tonight's game
A couple of individual mistakes but at the same time, you can’t fault the effort. We battled back but you know, we dug ourselves a big hole and we couldn’t come out of it. It is too bad because I thought with a couple of more simple plays we could have deserved a better fate.
