Ducks Reassign Rakell; Assign Sbisa to Norfolk (AHL) on Long-Term Injury Conditioning Loan
The Ducks have reassigned center Rickard Rakell to the Norfolk Admirals and have assigned defenseman Luca Sbisa to Norfolk (AHL) on a Long-Term Injury Conditioning Loan.
The Ducks have reassigned center Rickard Rakell to the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

In addition, the team has assigned defenseman Luca Sbisa to Norfolk (AHL) on a Long-Term Injury Conditioning Loan.

Rakell, 20 (5/5/93), has scored 4-1=5 points with six penalty minutes (PIM) in nine games for Norfolk this season. He returns to the Admirals co-leading the team in scoring, goals and appearances, and ranked second in power-play goals (3). The 6-1, 192-pound center did not appear in a game for the Ducks during his most recent recall on Oct. 28.

Selected in the first round (30th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Rakell made his NHL debut on Jan. 19, 2013 at Vancouver as the sixth youngest player to appear in a game for the Ducks at 19 years, eight months and 14 days. He played four games with Anaheim last season, going scoreless while averaging 8:57 time-on-ice (TOI). Rakell spent the rest of 2012-13 with Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), collecting 21-23=44 points with a +19 rating and 12 PIM in 40 games. He finished the season setting an OHL career-best in plus/minus and ranked fourth among team leaders in points-per-game (1.10).

A native of Sundbyberg, Sweden, Rakell represented his home country at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia, helping lead the team to a silver medal. He ranked fourth among tournament leaders in assists (0-6=6), while also leading Sweden in assists and co-leading the team in scoring (0-6=6). Rakell also won gold at the 2012 World Junior Championship in Calgary and Edmonton, scoring 2-3=5 points in six games.
