Ducks Sign Steckel to One-Year Contract; Assign Beleskey, Fasth to Norfolk (AHL) on Long-Term Injury Conditioning Loans
Steckel, 31 (3/15/82), has played in 418 NHL games with Washington, New Jersey, Toronto and Anaheim, scoring 33-46=79 points with 129 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-6, 215-pound center has also appeared in 31 career Stanley Cup Playoff games with Washington and Anaheim, earning 5-4=9 points with eight PIM. Steckel was acquired by Anaheim from Toronto on Mar. 15, 2013 (in exchange for Ryan Lasch and a 2014 seventh-round draft pick) and appeared in 21 contests for the Ducks in 2012-13, earning 1-5=6 points. He won 95-of-165 faceoffs in his final 14 contests of 2012-13 for a 57.6% success rate. Steckel appeared in all seven of Anaheim’s Conference Quarterfinal contests vs. Detroit last season, collecting 1-1=2 points. In 10 NHL seasons, Steckel has compiled a career faceoff percentage of 58.3% (3031-for-5205).
Selected by Los Angeles in the first round (30th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Steckel has split the 2013-14 season with Iowa and Norfolk of the AHL, earning 2-2=4 points with 12 PIM and a +6 rating. In 217 career AHL contests, Steckel has amassed 56-60=116 points with a +34 rating and 142 PIM. He won a Calder Cup championship with the Hershey Bears in 2005-06, ranking third on the club in goals and fifth in points with 10-5=15 points in 21 contests.
