Postgame Notes and Quotes: Dec. 15 vs. EDM
POSTGAME NOTES
Anaheim 3 vs. Edmonton 2
Dec. 15, 2013
Honda Center
23-7-5, 51 Standings Points

The Ducks have won five straight games, the longest active streak in the NHL. Anaheim is also the only team in the NHL with three different win streaks of five games or more this season. The club has also picked up points in eight consecutive games (6-0-2, 14 points). Anaheim also has points in 10 of its last 11 (8-1-2, 18 points). Their 51 points overall rank second in the NHL (Chicago, 53)

The Ducks pushed their home record to 13-0-2, marking the club’s best home start in franchise history. Anaheim remains the only NHL club to remain undefeated in regulation this season. In addition, this marks just the second time since the implementation of the shootout (2005-06) that an NHL club has gone at least 15 games without a regulation loss at home to start a season (San Jose, 20-0-2 in 2008-09).

Ryan Getzlaf extended his official point streak to 14 consecutive games (6-11=17), the longest in the NHL this season and the longest streak since Pittsburgh’s Pascal Dupuis had a 14-game streak from Mar. 7-Apr. 7, 2012 (10-12=22). It’s the fifth-longest point streak in club history (see information below). Including the two games he played prior to a three-game absence due to injury, Getzlaf has points in the last 16 games he has appeared in (10-13=23). While the 16-game streak is not an official point streak, this marks the longest streak of his career. Getzlaf’s 16-23=39 points this season rank fourth in the NHL.

Longest point streaks in club history:
Corey Perry, 19 games (Oct. 21, 2009-Dec. 1, 2009)
Teemu Selanne, 17 games (Feb. 3, 1999-Mar. 10, 1999)
Ryan Getzlaf, 15 games (Dec. 22, 2007-Jan. 23, 2008)
Teemu Selanne, 15 games (Feb. 10, 1996-Mar. 17, 1996)
Ryan Getzlaf, 14 games (Nov. 15, 2013 – present)

Teemu Selanne scored the 679th goal of his career this evening.

In December, Jonas Hiller has gone 4-0-1, with a .944 SV% (153-of-162) and a 1.74 GAA (9 GA/310 MIN). At HOME, Hiller has gone 8-0-2 (one ND) with a 1.79 GAA (19 GA/637 MIN) and a .942 SV% (309-of-328).

Nick Bonino has points in four of the last five games (2-3=5).

Tonight’s attendance was 16,301.

POSTGAME QUOTES

ANAHEIM DUCKS

Dustin Penner
On the team’s confidence level when the Oilers tied the game
We played a lot more desperate after they tied it up. I think all four lines started going, especially our line. We weren’t very good all game. Getzy [Ryan Getzlaf] made a good pass out to the slot for me, and it got deflected on the way up. Sometimes you need those breaks.

On winning at home
We like winning in general, but at home we’ve been able to stave off losing in regulation. We haven’t had a lot of home games, so we put a lot of emphasis on them.

Teemu Selanne
On ending his goalless streak

I’ve been waiting a long time. It’s a big relief. We needed that one. It’s been easier because we’ve been winning. I’ve had some good chances lately, and it’s funny how they weren’t going in. Hopefully it’s a good confidence boost for myself. It was good to see it go in.

Bruce Boudreau
On how the team responded

I really didn’t think they took a lot of liberties with us. I thought it was an emotional game for them. Any time you get beat two in a row, and they were playing pretty good, they come into this building, you knew they were going to be ready to play.

On seeing Teemu end his goalless streak
Everybody wants him to do good. When he struggles, we all know it. We probably know his numbers better than we know our numbers. It was great to see one finally go in for him.

EDMONTON OILERS

Ilya Bryzgalov
On returning to Anaheim
I have a lot of friends here but the team has changed a lot. Obviously they were some great years when I played here. We won the Cup, we had a couple good runs in the playoffs. It is nice to play here again.

On Selanne’s goal
I lost the puck for a second when Larsen intercepted it. I only found it when he [Selanne] was already shooting on the far side.

We played hard, we were in the game pretty much all game. We did a lot of good, positive things. We killed a five-minute penalty. We played hard, we were just unfortunate tonight.

Sam Gagner
On outcome of game

We’re not happy. You’ve got to find a way to at least get it to overtime. We played a solid game but at the end there, we just have to find a way to show up in our D zone. I know it’s a good line and it goes off Petry but we have to figure a way to keep it out of our net and at least force overtime.

Head coach Dallas Eakins
On team effort

Listen, you’re always disappointed when you lose but I can’t find a whole lot wrong with our game there. I thought our guys played excellent. That’s the league. It’s a game of mistakes but I thought our mistakes tonight were honest ones. Like I said, it’s disappointing to lose but it is hard to look and place blame.

On Bryzgalov
I thought Bryz was great. He was being vocal during the time out. He was really good with our bench. If that last puck doesn’t get tipped off Petry’s stick there, that’s an easy save for him.
