Postgame Notes and Quotes: Dec. 17 at DET
Postgame quotes following Anaheim\u2019s 5-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.

Postgame quotes following Anaheim’s 5-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.

Jonas Hiller
On tonight’s victory
It was important to start this road trip off on the right foot. It wasn’t our best period, but we found a way to score. Then, I think we played pretty solid second and third periods. We didn’t give them too much. We just kept playing forward and didn’t just sit back.

On erasing the lead and scoring four goals in the first period
I should probably give up one every game [laughs]. It’s definitely not how you want to start the game, but that’s what makes us strong right now. We don’t worry too much about what’s going on, like ‘Are we down? Are we up? Who’s in? Who’s out?’ We try to play our game. We keep going and we’ve had a lot of times this season where we’ve scored the tying goal during the next shift. That definitely helps for our confidence, and makes it tough for the opponent to get something going.

Jakob Silfverberg
On scoring a goal in his return to the lineup

It’s always fun to score goals, and it brings a lot of confidence. To be able to get a goal so early in the game always helps me throughout the rest of the game. It was a great feeling.

On how he felt overall
I was a little nervous before the game. It was like the first game of the season. You’re not sure what to expect, but as the game went on, I felt more comfortable. We played a good game.

On his goal (rebound opportunity from a carom off the end boards)
We saw in the pregame skate that the boards are pretty crazy. The pucks come out almost like a one-time pass. I saw that Beauch [Francois Beauchemin] took a shot and I spun around and the puck came right to me.

On the game overall
We played a great game. We played good for 60 minutes and didn’t give up too many chances. Hillsy [Jonas Hiller] played great. It was a great game for us. We got the bounces and that always helps.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On scoring four goals in the first period in Detroit

It doesn’t happen too often. I think they’re eighth in the league, defensively. They always play good defensively, so when you score four on these guys, any time, it’s a real bonus.

On the boost Silfverberg’s goal gave to the team
The timing was really good. We knew they were going to come out with a lot of emotion and play hard. When Silvy [Jakob Silfverberg] scored, it deflated them a little bit. Then the next goal, when Bones [Nick Bonino] scored, it really was a deflator and allowed us to get that 4-1 lead after the first period.

On capitalizing on an injury-depleted Red Wings team
We took advantage of a team that was hurting. We beat Detroit 5-2 in the first game we played them last year, and how did that end up? That was no way the Detroit Red Wings team you’re going to see in January.
