Postgame notes and quotes following Anaheim’s 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Dec. 21, 2013.

POSTGAME NOTES
Ducks 5 vs. Islanders 3
Dec. 21, 2013
Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
26-7-5, 57 Standings Points

The league-leading Ducks (26-7-5, 57 points) now have the longest winning streak in the NHL this year (8).

The Ducks have matched the longest standings point streak (11, tying LA), and own the longest active road winning streak (5) and longest active home standings point streak (15, only team to record a point in every home game this season).

Anaheim now has the league’s best record with a 26-7-5 mark through 38 games (.750 points/win percentage).

The Ducks have won a club-record eight straight games, the longest streak in the NHL this season. There have been three win streaks in the NHL this season of seven games or more – twice by Anaheim (8 and 7) and once by Vancouver (7).

Anaheim’s standings point streak is at 11 games (9-0-2), the longest active and matching an NHL high this season (also LA, Nov. 7-27).

In addition to their club record 13-0-2 start at Honda Center, the Ducks have won five consecutive road games. That’s the longest active streak in the NHL and the club’s longest since Jan. 22-Feb. 13, 2011 (six games). The club record is seven games, set Nov. 28-Dec. 13, 2006. Anaheim also has points in six straight road games (5-0-1, 11 points), its second such six-game streak this season (also Oct. 25-Nov. 4).

Anaheim owns the second-best record through 38 games in club history, behind only the 2006-07 team (27-5-6, 60 points).

Frederik Andersen became just the third goaltender in NHL history to earn nine (or more) wins in his first 10 games, joining Frank Brimsek of Boston (9-1-0, Nov. 3-Dec. 20, 1938) and Bob Froese of Philadelphia (9-0-1, Jan. 8-Feb. 2, 1983).

POSTGAME QUOTES

ANAHEIM DUCKS

Ryan Getzlaf
On tonight’s comeback victory

It was big. Our group did a great job keeping our composure throughout this game. We were able to come back and win the third period like we want to.

On picking up their game in the second period
That first period, they came out pretty strong. They’re a skating group and they’ve got some talented players up front who can score goals. They jumped on us early, but we kept our composure, stayed with our game plan, and were able to get it done.

On the ability to come back from deficits
It’s a nice feeling to have in the locker room when you’re pretty confident that your group can come back in any situation. We proved it tonight.

On the franchise-best eight-game winning streak
Our motto was to try and get to Christmas on a winning note. We’ve got a big test coming up in Washington. We can take tomorrow and prepare for that, and enjoy this one tonight.

Frederik Andersen
On keeping the winning streak alive

It’s a nice team win, to come back like that and turning the page after the second period. We got back to our strengths.

On the third period rally
Everyone refocused and we knew we could get at least two goals on them in the third. Everyone battled hard to get the goals to win.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On Getzlaf’s hat trick and four-point night
He put it upon himself that he was going to take this team. Everybody rode with him. He was the catalyst for sure. He wasn’t going to be denied. When he missed that one that should’ve went in, you just knew he was going to get the next one.

On Palmieri scoring back-to-back game-winning goals
We might have to have him play in this area a lot more [laughs]. He’s a streaky scorer, as most goal scorers are, and that was a tremendous goal he scored. He’s feeling it right now, and when he’s feeling it, he’s a pretty good player.

On the team’s success so far
We’re just plotting along one at a time, and I think we’re getting better as the season goes on. We’re having less turnovers, even though we had two tonight that cost us goals. I don’t think we had too many more other than that. We’re being very cognizant of those things.
