Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller was named to Team Switzerland’s 2014 Olympic Winter Games roster, joining Cam Fowler of Team USA as Anaheim’s first two players selected to participate in the February games in Sochi, Russia. Anaheim defenseman Luca Sbisa (injured) was also named to Switzerland’s ‘sidelist.’ The deadline for announcing Olympic rosters is Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Hiller, 31 (2/12/82), will appear in his second Olympic Winter Games with Switzerland in 2014 and his fifth international appearance with the Swiss National Team. Hiller made his Olympic debut at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, going 1-3 with a 2.47 GAA and .918 SV% in five games. His 146 saves ranked third among all goaltenders during the 2010 Olympics, including a 44-save effort vs. Canada on Feb. 18, 2010 at Canada Hockey Place.

A native of Felben Wellhausen, Switzerland, Hiller went 1-2 with a 2.79 GAA and .915 SV% in three games at the 2008 World Championship in Halifax and Quebec City. He also made six appearances at the 2007 World Championship in Moscow, Russia, going 3-3 with a 2.51 GAA and .910 SV%.

Signed as a free agent on May 25, 2007, Hiller has posted a 20-4-4 record with two shutouts, a 2.42 goals-against average (GAA) and .911 save percentage (SV%) in 29 games for the Ducks this season. With a 4-3 overtime victory vs. Vancouver last night, Hiller extended his club-record winning streak to 11-0-0, while also improving on his career best. The last NHL netminder to win 11 consecutive starts was the Phoenix Coyotes’ Mike Smith, who did so from Feb. 4-28, 2012 (11-0-0). Among NHL goaltenders, Hiller currently ranks fifth in wins and tied for 10th in shutouts. The 6-2, 192-pound netmider was named the NHL’s Third Star of December after finishing the month leading the league in wins (9), while also recording a 1.96 GAA and .929 SV%.
