Gibson Reassigned; Sbisa on Long-Term Injury Conditioning Loan
The Ducks have reassigned goaltender John Gibson to the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim\u2019s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the club assigned defenseman Luca Sbisa to Norfolk on a Long-Term Injury Conditioning Loan.
The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned goaltender John Gibson to the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the club assigned defenseman Luca Sbisa to Norfolk on a Long-Term Injury Conditioning Loan.

Gibson, 20 (7/14/93), did not appear in a game with Anaheim following his Jan. 10 recall. Gibson has appeared in 26 games with Norfolk this season, posting an 11-9-3 record with a 2.61 GAA, .915 SV% and two shutouts. At the time of his recall, Gibson co-led AHL goaltenders in saves (700) and appearances, ranked tied for second among rookie goalies in shutouts, third in wins and SV%, and fifth in GAA. In the month of October, he was named the CCM/AHL Goalie of the Month after going 3-1-2 with a 1.44 GAA and .953 SV% in six appearances.

Selected by Anaheim in the second round (39th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Gibson was USA Hockey’s recipient of the 2013 Bob Johnson Award, which recognizes excellence in international hockey competition during a specific season of play. He backstopped Team USA to the gold medal at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship in Russia, posting a 5-0-2 record, and was selected Most Valuable Player of the championship. In addition, Gibson became the first United States goaltender and second American overall to win the award (Zach Parise in 2004), and the first goaltender overall since Steve Mason (Canada) in 2008. Gibson also received the Directorate Award as the tournament’s best goaltender, was selected to the Media All-Star team and was named one of Team USA’s best three players of the tournament.
