ANAHEIM DUCKS

Andrew Cogliano
On the Dallas Stars

They did a good job of making plays when we were forechecking. They were getting pucks out really quick. They had a game plan of playing a simple, patient game. We didn’t generate a lot of chances.

On being shut out
I can’t remember the last time we’ve been shut out. You just have to get back at it. We haven’t been happy with our overall team game. We’ve been winning one, losing one. We need to shore that up before the break.

Jonas Hiller
On tonight’s loss

I don’t think we played really good the first two periods. It just didn’t seem to work out. We had some chances in the third, but [Dan] Ellis played pretty well. We weren’t able to find the back of the net.

On finding consistency
It seems like one game we play well, then the next game it seems like we’ve lost everything again. Right now it doesn’t feel like we have that consistency where every day we come in and want to go out and give 100 percent. We wait and see what’s going to happen, then start getting into the game. Sure, it’s worked for us earlier, but at some point you can’t always think you’re going to come back in the third and win the game.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On the Dallas Stars

They skated better. They really blocked out well in their own zone. They didn’t give us any second shots. They were determined for 60 minutes and we couldn’t get in on the forecheck. They moved the puck really quick.

On the battles
We didn’t have any sustained pressure. Against a team like Dallas, you have to win the board battles. If you don’t win them, their speed is so good, it’s going to be a real tough game for you.

On the status of Mark Fistric
We’ll know more tomorrow. It’s the first day, a lower-body injury. We’ll know a lot more tomorrow.

DALLAS STARS

Dan Ellis
On the past few games

We’ve been playing a lot better hockey lately. More so just sticking to the way that gives us success. Early in January we struggled a little bit because we got away from our game. Over the past 5-6 games we finally found a way to give ourselves a chance to win every night. We played Pittsburgh really hard, we played a number of other teams, and now we played Anaheim really hard. I think if we stick to that brand of hockey, we give ourselves a chance to win every night.

On playing at Honda Center again
I think any time you’ve played with friends and stuff like that and you’ve played in a building, whether they’re having success or not, you have to respect that but also you enjoy yourself out there. You can joke around with guys even during the play and that keeps the guys a little looser than you would be, say if you were playing Pittsburgh and didn’t really know anybody. It’s always fun to come back here. I loved my time here. Still the best place I’ve ever played and lived in but it was good to get those two points for us tonight.

Rich Peverley
On tonight's game

It was a good game. First two periods we didn’t really give them too much. I thought we were skating really well. Especially against a team like this that is really offensive, we did a good job with backpressure and not giving them time with the puck.

On the physicality
I thought we did a really good job competing tonight, everybody on the puck. It was a great job by everybody, especially Dan. Dan had a good game.

Head coach Lindy Ruff
On Dan Ellis

He did a nice job against them last time we played them. Lehtonen, like I said this morning, is feeling tired. He’s been playing a lot of hockey so it was time to get (Ellis) in. From the looks of things, we may have to play him more. He gave us a rock-solid game. We only had a couple big breakdowns and he was there for us.

On playing Anaheim
We’ve had a pretty good stretch here playing good defense. You go through the last five or six games, it has been almost the same picture every night. This time of the year, games are going to be tight. It was great to see us go through a third period where it is 1-0. You have to protect the lead. We had to kill a couple penalties. Killing those penalties gave us a little bit of momentum. We blocked a couple shots. It was good to see.
