ANAHEIM DUCKS

Ryan Getzlaf
On tonight’s loss

We knew we were going to hit some patches here and there. It’s frustrating with our effort and our start of the game. We’re not ready to play. They came out and they played hard. Their goaltender played well early and we just didn’t respond. We didn’t keep playing the game.

Frederik Andersen
On tonight’s game

I have to be better seeing some of those chances. It doesn’t matter how hard they come. I have to be better. It’s tough to win when you let in four goals. We weren’t ready.

On falling behind early
That’s not the best way to start the game. It’s not really about the goals; it’s the way we play. We have to come out better. We’ll play better the rest of the games.

Mathieu Perreault
On the recent struggles

We let teams take it to us and we have a hard time coming back now. We can’t find a way to get back in games, so we need to start better.

On if teams are defending them differently
It’s all about us. We haven’t had a lot of emotion lately. We’re just going through the motions. We’ve been winning so much that we kind of got into a lull right now. We have to find a way to get out of it.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On the recent struggles

You look at individual games, and today we just got outworked. We lost all the one-on-one battles. We don’t have the sense of urgency. It’s not there. If you want to win in this league, it has to be there every night. Every team you play is hungry for points.

On having to face Chicago on Wednesday
It’s probably great that Chicago is coming in. It’s a team that if we don’t play up to our best level, we’re going to get our butts kicked. It’s never good to see Chicago because they’re a great team, but it’s maybe something we need.

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS

RJ Umberger
On their recent success

We are really playing to our identity right now. We are working hard. We are a gritty team. We let our forecheck do the work for us. We get big saves from Bob when we need them. Our special teams have been a lot better this past month and we are really working on our penalty kill. It has been a big improvement for us.

On tonight's game
We don’t score too many pretty goals. We’re just kind of a team that grinds it out. We got rewarded with some rebounds and some deflections there tonight.

Nathan Horton
On tonight's win

They’re a good team. They have only lost three at home before us. It is a great test for us and we played hard. I think we played a great game. We stuck with them.

On the team's confidence
We’ve had our struggles. We really needed to win. When they scored and made it 2-1, we stuck with the game plan and went back out there and got a couple goals. We kept playing the same way. We kept working hard and that’s what happens. We got bounces.

Head coach Todd Richards
On holding lead in third

We were a little bit better. There are still some things I would like to see us do when we have leads. Especially when they scored the first goal to make it 2-1. It was a huge goal as far as power plays. We definitely benefited from that situation, but then again we get into kind of a retreat mode and prevent defense. They were able to start attacking with speed. We were better tonight but we still have to get better in terms of playing the third period with a lead.

On the second intermission talk
The only thing we talked about was continue go after these guys. Continue to skate, continue to pursue pucks. The way the period started I think it was OK. Gradually as it goes on, I think the pressure gets amped up, and we start to go into a retreat mode.
