On his shootout attempt

I saw it go off the post and head towards the net, but by the time it was bouncing off, I didn’t see it hit the other post. I looked back and the ref called a goal, but when they went to review it, it didn’t go in. There’s not much you can do about it.

On it being a game of inches
If the puck hits the ice at a different angle, it might roll in. But it is what it is. We got the point, but it’s disappointing we didn’t get the second point.

On tonight’s game

We came out a little slow and had to start catching up. We weren’t focused enough, starting from me all the way up front. Pucks were getting away from us and we weren’t strong enough on the puck. We had a really good second period, fought all the way back. The third period was a pretty even game on both sides.

On putting this loss behind them
We really haven’t had too many bad games after each other. We always find a way to get back. I’m sure we’re doing the same thing in the next game. I really think we have a really good team if we play our game. We proved it in the second period. If we play our game, we can score and dominate games. But if we play at 90 percent, it’s not going to be good enough.

When I first saw it, I didn’t know. Everybody was cheering but I didn’t know if it went in. When you look at the first replay, you see it bouncing. When you looked at the overhead, you didn’t see any white but you knew it was on its edge. So, obviously, it was in at some point. That’s what took so long. That’s the difference between winning and losing.

They can’t do it every night. When they don’t score, it’s difficult to win no matter what else. They’re the straw that stirs the drink. They had a lot of shots, and in the third period both of them had shots from 15 feet out in front of the net that didn’t go in. It was one of those nights for them.

On nerves making his Canadiens debut

Definitely. I think it is good to have nerves but I had to fight them off. At the end of the first, I got some saves there after not many in the first 10. So that felt good going into the second.

Seeing our guy win the shootout. It was a sense of relief there.

He played unbelievable. He made great saves to keep us in the game.

On the Canadiens acquiring Thomas Vanek
Everybody knows he is a great player. He is a goal scorer and can play on the power play. Hopefully he is going to score more goals for us and we are happy to see him on our team.

We started the game and tried to dictate the game again. I liked our effort. We didn’t play well in the second but we really bounced back in the third and played a solid third period.
