POSTGAME NOTES
Anaheim 3 vs. Vancouver 0
Apr. 7, 2014
Rogers Arena
51-20-8, 110 Standings Points

The Anaheim Ducks tied a franchise record with 110 standings points (51-20-8) following a 3-0 win in Vancouver tonight, matching the 2006-07 club with three games remaining in the regular season.

John Gibson (20 years and 297 days) is the youngest NHL goalie since Buffalo's Darren Puppa (Nov. 1 1985 @ EDM, 20 years, 223 days) to record a shutout in his NHL debut. The last NHL goaltender of any age to record a shutout in his NHL debut was Al Montoya (24 years and 47 days) of the Phoenix Coyotes on Apr. 1, 2009 at Colorado. Gibson is also the first goalie in a Ducks history to record a shutout in his Anaheim debut.*

POSTGAME QUOTES

John Gibson
On his shutout victory in his NHL debut

I have to give a lot of credit to the guys. They played really well in front of me, and made my job easy. I just had to keep the puck out, and make the routine saves.

On today, as a whole
I just enjoyed it. It’s been a great day. It’s a day I’ll remember for the rest of my life, so I wanted to enjoy it.

On what he’ll do with his game-winning puck
I’ll put it somewhere; I don’t where I’ll put it yet. I’ll definitely keep it.

Francois Beauchemin
On the keys to tonight’s victory

Just by playing 60 minutes. We’ve been talking about it for a couple weeks, probably since the last time we played here and beat them, 5-1. That was probably the last time we played a full 60 minutes. We wanted to get back to that. We wanted to make sure to play a solid game before we head home and play the San Jose Sharks.

On John Gibson’s NHL debut
He played a great game. He played the puck really well for us. He was making good plays, making it easy on us, as defensemen, when we went back to get the puck. There weren’t too many rebounds in front of him. Everything was pretty much in the corners. That was the key for us.

On team defense
Gibby [John Gibson] played a great game, and we were pretty solid in front of him. We blocked a lot of shots and cleared the puck out of our zone when we had the chance. That’s the key.

On the chance to clinch the Pacific Division on Wednesday vs. San Jose
It sounds great. I’m looking forward to doing it on Wednesday against them.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On Gibson’s debut
This was just like old hat to him. If it was me at 20 years old, and I played my first game and scored a goal, I would’ve been smiling from ear to ear. He was just very relaxed. That’s just the way he is.

On team defense
I thought they were really good in front of John, by not allowing the second-chance opportunities. You could see they were way more focused about this game.

On the chance to clinch the division on Wednesday
On paper, it sounds really good. But the fact we play San Jose the next game, L.A. the next game after that, and Colorado, it’s not going to be an easy thing. We’ve got to play a lot like we played tonight if we want to have success on Wednesday and beyond.
