Duck Recall Etem from Norfolk (AHL); Reassign Gibson, Vatanen to Norfolk
The Ducks have recalled left wing Emerson Etem from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the Ducks have reassigned goaltender John Gibson and defenseman Sami Vatanen to Norfolk. In addition to today's roster moves, Ducks defenseman Mark Fistric has returned from his Long Term Injury Conditioning Loan.

Etem, 21 (6/16/92), has appeared in 29 games with Anaheim this season, earning 7-4=11 points with a +3 rating and four penalty minutes (PIM). He played 50 contests with the Admirals in 2013-14, scoring 24-30=54 points with a +14 rating and 10 PIM. At the time of his recall, the 6-1, 206-pound winger led active Norfolk players in goals, points, assists and plus/minus (+14).

Selected in the first round (29th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Etem has appeared in 67 career contests with the Ducks, collecting 10-11=21 points with a +10 rating and 13 PIM. The Long Beach, California native appeared in all seven Western Conference Quarterfinal games in 2013 against Detroit, tallying 3-2=5 points with a +4 rating and 2 PIM. Among team leaders, he ranked tied for first in goals, tied for third in points and tied for second in plus/minus. In 95 career AHL contests with Norfolk, he has 37-33=70 points with a +13 rating and 22 PIM.

Gibson, 20 (7/14/93), made his NHL debut this season with Anaheim, posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.33 GAA and .954 SV% in three games. He became the youngest NHL goalie (20 years, 297 days) since Buffalo's Darren Puppa (Nov. 1, 1985 @ EDM; 20 years, 223 days) to record a shutout in his NHL debut after stopping all 18 shots for a 3-0 win on Apr. 7 at Vancouver. He was the first goalie to record a shutout in his NHL debut at any age since Al Montoya of the Phoenix Coyotes (Apr. 1, 2009 at Colorado) and the first in franchise history to record a shutout in his Anaheim debut. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native was named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week for Apr. 7-13 after making his first three career NHL starts.

The 6-3, 210-pound goaltender appeared in 45 games with Norfolk in 2013-14, posting a 21-17-4 record with a 2.34 GAA, .919 SV% and five shutouts. At the time of his recall on Apr. 6, Gibson ranked third among AHL goalies in GAA, seventh in SV%, second in shutouts, sixth in saves. Among rookie goaltenders, he led in GAA, tied for first in shutouts, second in SV% and saves (1141), and ranked fifth in wins.

Selected by Anaheim in the second round (39th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Gibson has appeared in 46 career AHL games has gone 21-17-4 with five shutouts, a 2.38 GAA and .918 SV%. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native was named the CCM/AHL Goalie of the Month in October after going 3-1-2 with a 1.44 GAA and .953 SV% in six appearances.

Vatanen, 22 (6/3/91), collected 6-15=21 points with a +9 rating and 20 PIM in 48 games for the Ducks in 2013-14. The 5-10, 183-pound defenseman won bronze with Team Finland at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, leading all tournament defensemen in assists (5) and ranking tied for fourth in scoring (0-5=5). In 56 career NHL games, Vatanen has collected 8-15=23 points with a +12 rating and 22 PIM.

Selected by Anaheim in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Vatanen scored 2-5=7 points with four PIM in eight games with Norfolk in 2013-14. In 70 career AHL games, the Jyvaskyla, Finland native has collected 11-41=52 points with 48 PIM.
