The Ducks have recalled goaltender John Gibson from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim\u2019s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
The Ducks have recalled goaltender John Gibson from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Gibson, 20 (7/14/93), made his NHL debut with Anaheim in 2013-14, posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.33 goals-against average (GAA) and .954 save percentage (SV%) in three games. He became the youngest NHL goalie (20 years, 297 days) since Buffalo's Darren Puppa (Nov. 1, 1985 @ EDM; 20 years, 223 days) to record a shutout in his NHL debut after stopping all 18 shots for a 3-0 win on Apr. 7 at Vancouver. Gibson was also the first goalie to record a shutout in his NHL debut at any age since Al Montoya of the Phoenix Coyotes (Apr. 1, 2009 at Colorado) and the first in franchise history to record a shutout in his Anaheim debut. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native was named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week for Apr. 7-13 after making his first three career NHL starts.

Selected by Anaheim in the second round (39th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Gibson appeared in six playoff games with Norfolk, posting a 4-2 record with a 1.45 GAA, .955 SV% and one shutout. At the time of his recall, he led AHL Playoff goaltenders in GAA, SV% and saves (189), and co-led in wins. The 6-3, 210-pound goaltender appeared in 45 regular-season games with Norfolk in 2013-14, posting a 21-17-4 record with five shutouts, a 2.34 GAA and .919 SV%. Among rookie goalies, Gibson ranked third in GAA and SV%, tied for second in shutouts, fourth in saves (1141) and fifth in wins. He has appeared in 46 career AHL games, going 21-17-4 with five shutouts, a 2.38 GAA and .918 SV%. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native was named the CCM/AHL Goalie of the Month in October after going 3-1-2 with a 1.44 GAA and .953 SV% in six appearances.
