ANAHEIM DUCKS

Ryan Getzlaf
On tonight’s game

They came out and got some quick goals and never really looked back. Really tough emotions right now. They came out and played the way they can play. They’re a good hockey team. They know what they’re doing in these situations.

On falling short of expectations
It’s what we worked for; for these situations in case there was a Game 7. We had it in our building. We weren’t able to take advantage of it tonight.

On his message to his team, fans
We just need to keep working. We had a heck of a year. A lot of good things happened, and we made a lot of good strides. There were good emotions throughout this building. I thank the fans for showing up every night and supporting us through this whole [season].

Teemu Selanne
On the closing moments of the game

It was very disappointing. I knew it was either going to be an unbelievable party or disappointment. This time it wasn’t the party. It’s very disappointing. It’s a funny game. We had our chances. We just couldn’t take advantage of them. That’s the way it goes.

On if this was his last game
It’s a tough feeling. You want to go further. We all felt we had a chance to go to the next round, and maybe all the way. It’s going to be tough waking up tomorrow morning and realizing it’s all over. But I want to look at the big picture and enjoy this game, my teammates, the fans and the organization. Not even in my wildest dreams did I expect to have a career like this. I’m very thankful.

On his career in Anaheim
When I came here during the 1995-96 season, I didn’t really know what to expect. It turned out to be my home and a happy place for me and my family. The community and the people, the fans and the organization have really made us feel at home. There’s no better place. I’m very thankful I’ve been able to play for so many years, especially here. This has been very special for me and my family. Everything great has to end. There’s going to be a lot of sadness about this, but overall, there is going to be a lot of happiness. It’s been an unbelievable journey. I’ve really been enjoying every day. Every morning I drive here with a smile on my face, win or lose. That’s why this is so important for me. Everybody in this organization has been so important to me. I feel very special.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On handling this Game 7 loss

We have a few months to figure it out. We’ll get over it because you have to get out of it. When training camp comes around, you’re excited to play hockey. Right now, it’s a bitter pill to swallow.

On the first period
The first period was like men against boys, quite frankly. They were bigger, stronger, faster, and seemed more determined. We were on our heels. Everything we said we wanted not to do, we did. By the time we started playing well in the second, [Jonathan] Quick was there to make the saves when they needed them.

On giving Selanne the final shift of the game
He deserved it. I was going to do it anyway, but Ryan [Getzlaf] mentioned it with six minutes remaining to make sure “T” had the last shift. I’m sure it’s an emotional night for him. It’s not the way he wanted to go out, but what a fabulous player and person.

LOS ANGELES KINGS

Anze Kopitar
On tonight's game

It was definitely our best game of the series. We came out strong. We got after it right away. Justin got us on the board pretty quick and we rolled after that. It was a complete effort by all 18 guys that were dressed.

On the team's confidence in Game 7 on the road
First of all, lots of character in this room. A sense of comfort, too. Even though we got down in the first series and being down in this series too, it seems like we play our best hockey when our backs are against the wall. We will get to enjoy this one tonight and start getting ready for Chicago tomorrow.

On Selanne’s last game
It was an honor for me to play against him. With Kings and Ducks down here, we play quite often. I have seen a lot of stuff from him over the years.

Justin Williams
On Selanne

There are not many guys left in this league that have earned the respect and admiration of not only the fans but the players he plays against. I think we would have stayed out there for 20 minutes if we could. If that is his last game, I imagine it is, he has nothing to be upset about. He is an awesome player.

On being 6-0 in Game 7s
I am obviously proud of those numbers. I am certainly not the only guy who has great numbers in Game 7. As a team collectively, we have shown that we are able to get it done. At the same time we might have two more to play this year. We are moving on and we are happy but we know it’s just halfway there.

Head coach Darryl Sutter
On the start of game

I think we tried to focus on just having a good start, everybody’s first shift. Obviously, we scored the first goal which has been an advantage in this series.

On Selanne
I coached Teemu and I know him. He is a special player and a special person. I am glad that he got to win the championship. As disappointing as it is for him to lose the series, he got to play here and he got recognized. I think both teams, not just his own team, but I know the respect that our players have for him too. It was really nice to see that.
