The 3rd annual Anaheim Ducks Mini 1-on-1 Tournament presented by Hockey Giant showcased 155 of California’s best shooters and goalies. Competitors each of the three age groups, Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam competed in a breakaway competition to find out who this season’s Mini 1-on-1 Champion would be.
The action kicked off with each of four qualifying rounds at Aliso Viejo Ice Palace, The Rinks – Anaheim Ice, Escondido Iceoplex and The Rinks – Yorba Linda Ice. The top four shooters and goalies from each age group at each of the qualifying rounds continued on to the Semi-Final round at Honda Center.
The Mini 1-on-1 Semi-Finals were held Monday, December 10 at Honda Center. The night started with an interview of each participant, who were asked about their favorite Ducks player, what team they played for and what they would do with the Stanley Cup for a day. At the completion of the interviews, the participants took the ice to narrow the field down to two finalist teams. The action was intense as both shooters and goalies made highlight reel plays. One shooter won his Semi-Final round by roofing a shot through his legs.
Numerous emails were received from parents and participants about how they enjoyed the event. Some of the comments included:
- “Thank you for putting on such a fun, wonderful event! The kids were so excited and the parents, equally thrilled.”
- “This was a GREAT event! My son truly enjoyed the chance to come up from San Diego and compete in the Bantam competition. He had a blast!”
- “Great event! The kids had a great time and it was fun to watch.”
The finals of each of the three age groups will be held Tuesday, January 22nd during the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League All-Star Game at Honda Center.
In the three years of the Mini 1-on-1 Tournament, the tournament has hosted more than 385 participants. Many of those participants have had the opportunity to play at Honda Center. This season’s tournament was the first sponsored by Hockey Giant.
