Mighty Ducks-Sabres Preview

GAME: Anaheim Mighty Ducks (13-15-4-5) at Buffalo Sabres (15-19-3-1).

TIME: Friday, 8 p.m. EST.

The rejuvenated Buffalo Sabres will look to stretch their unbeaten streak against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to nine games when the last-place teams square off at the HSBC Arena.

Buffalo is riding a 6-0-2 streak against Anaheim, including a 5-2 road victory on Oct. 24.

Since ending an eight-game overall winless streak, the Sabres are 3-1, including Wednesday's 7-1 home win over Washington in which Maxim Afinogenov and Miroslav Satan recorded hat tricks.

"The work ethic of the team, especially over the last 10 games, has been fabulous," said Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff, whose team is unbeaten in its last three at home (2-0-1).

Afinogenov and Satan became the first Buffalo teammates to score three goals in the same game since Alexander Mogilny and Yuri Khmylev had hat tricks against the New York Rangers on Dec. 31, 1992.

"It's always nice for me and nice for the team," Satan said after registering his fifth career hat trick. "It's great and I hope I can get some more."

For Afinogenov, the outburst marked his first points in seven games. Satan has seven points in his last four games, and now leads the team with 13 goals.

Buffalo is expected to get J.P. Dumont back for Friday's game. The right wing, who is tied with Daniel Briere with a team-high 25 points, had been sidelined since injuring his hip against Carolina on Dec. 26.

The Mighty Ducks won consecutive road games for the first time in two months by beating the Hurricanes 3-1 on Wednesday.

Ruslan Salei scored a fluke short-handed goal, and Sergei Fedorov and Andy McDonald also scored for Anaheim, which has won two in a row overall following a three-game losing skid.

"I really feel like we stole one," Anaheim captain Steve Rucchin said. "That's a huge goal. We got away with one."

Rob Niedermayer returned to the Mighty Ducks' lineup after missing 12 games with a groin injury, and had an assist.
