Stars-Mighty Ducks Preview

GAME: Dallas Stars (17-17-7-0) at Anaheim Mighty Ducks (13-17-4-5).

TIME: Monday, 10:30 p.m. EST.

The Dallas Stars know that in order to make their move up the Pacific Division standings, they must start eliminating silly mistakes.

They'll look to break a four-game winless streak when they meet the Anaheim Mighty Ducks at Arrowhead Pond.

The Stars, five points behind first-place San Jose in the Pacific, are 0-1-3 since beating the Columbus Blue Jackets on Dec. 27. Two defensive lapses cost them a chance at a victory in a 2-2 tie against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Kings forward Martin Straka scored a short-handed goal with 22 seconds left in regulation and Ziggy Palffy scored in the first period after an ill-fated clearing pass by Dallas goaltender Marty Turco.

"That's the second time that's happened to us in three games," Dallas right wing Bill Guerin said, referring to Niklas Sundstrom's tying goal with a minute left in a 1-1 tie Wednesday with Montreal.

"Who knows if those are the ones that are going to bite us in the butt when it comes down to it?"

Dallas center Stu Barnes ended an 18-game scoring drought, and Guerin also scored for the Stars, who are winless in their last seven games against division rivals.

"We did a lot of things well, but it's always frustrating when you give up a goal in the last minute and don't win," Dallas coach Dave Tippett said. "We were looking for two points."

The Ducks have lost two straight and five of their last seven. Jean-Sebastian Giguere made 38 saves Saturday, but Anaheim fell to the Detroit Red Wings 3-1.

"Overall, you've got to play 60 minutes," Anaheim center Sergei Fedorov said. "We gave up a couple quick chances against a team like that, it's hard to win. Everything else was fine."

Andy McDonald scored for the Ducks, extending his goal streak to three games.
