Blue Jackets-Mighty Ducks Preview

GAME: Columbus Blue Jackets (11-23-5-3) at Anaheim Mighty Ducks (13-18-6-5).

TIME: Sunday, 8 p.m. EST.

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks are still searching for their first win of 2004.

They'll look to break a five-game winless streak when they welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets to Arrowhead Pond.

Since beating the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 on Dec. 31, the Ducks are 0-3-2. They tied a season high with 46 shots Friday, but they lost to the Vancouver Canucks 5-2.

Todd Simpson and Petr Sykora both scored for the Ducks, but Simpson said Anaheim must get better on defense.

"I don't think the guys in this room care how many shots we get. We've got to win, whether we get 46 shots or 10 shots," Simpson said. "We played against a good team tonight and generated a lot of offense, but I think we need to worry about defense a little more."

Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who allowed four goals, was lifted with less than six minutes remaining in the second period, but Sykora was not blaming the goalie.

"It's not Jiggy's fault, it's our fault," Sykora said. "Jiggy's there for us all the time, but you can't give up 2-on-0 breaks in this league."

The Blue Jackets are nearing the end of a seven-game road trip. They are 2-2-1 on the swing, which ends Thursday in St. Louis.

Anders Eriksson and Todd Marchant both scored for the Blue Jackets in a 2-2 tie against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. Eriksson, who scored on a power play in the first period, ended a 135-game goal-scoring drought.

Columbus has scored three power-play goals in its last two games after going 2-for-50 with a man advantage in its previous 10.

The Blue Jackets placed center Andrew Cassels on injured reserve because of a broken foot and recalled defenseman Aaron Johnson from Syracuse of the AHL
