Mighty Ducks-Canucks Preview

GAME: Anaheim Mighty Ducks (13-20-7-5) at Vancouver Canucks (25-12-7-2).

TIME: Saturday, 10 p.m. EST.

The Vancouver Canucks may be facing the perfect opponent in trying to end their home winless streak.

The Canucks try to end a five-game winless skid at GM Place when they meet a slumping Anaheim Mighty Ducks team that hasn't registered a victory in its last eight visits to Vancouver.

Vancouver has been one of the most dominant road teams in the NHL this season with a league-leading 14 wins away from home.

The Canucks extended their franchise-record road winning streak to eight on Tuesday against the Phoenix Coyotes, but it came to an end with a 3-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.

Vancouver now returns to GM Place to begin a season high-tying, five-game homestand. The Canucks are 0-3-2 in their last five games on home ice, with their last win coming against the Nashville Predators on Dec. 16.

"I don't know what it is, if we feel more pressure putting on a show at home or if we feel that we're having an advantage playing at home, but we're certainly playing differently," Canucks captain and leading scorer Markus Naslund said.

Anaheim's tough season got worse on Thursday night as it had its winless streak extended to eight games with a 1-0 road loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

To make matters worse for the Ducks, they'll be trying to end that skid in Vancouver, where they are 0-6-2 since a 5-1 win on Feb. 20, 1999.

Anaheim hasn't won since beating the Hurricanes 3-1 in Carolina on New Year's Eve, going 0-5-3 since. The Ducks have scored just 14 goals in that span and are in 13th place in the Western Conference, one season after advancing to the Stanley Cup finals.

"Night after night we're having chances, but we're just not putting it away," Anaheim coach Mike Babcock said. "We have to respond and find a way to win -- that's the challenge for us."
