Flames-Mighty Ducks Preview

GAME: Calgary Flames (22-15-4-3) at Anaheim Mighty Ducks (14-20-7-5).

TIME: Monday, 8 p.m. EST.

The Calgary Flames are hoping to have leading scorer Jarome Iginla back in the lineup as they try to end a nine-game road winless streak in Anaheim against the defending Western Conference champion Mighty Ducks at Arrowhead Pond.

The Flames lost their 26-year-old team captain to an ankle injury during Saturday's 3-2 home loss to Dallas. Iginla, who has a team-high 39 points, got tangled up with Stars defenseman Richard Matvichuk along the boards in the second period.

The severity of Iginla's injury was not known, but Flames coach and general manager Darryl Sutter remained optimistic.

"He tried in the third period, so obviously it's not too serious," Sutter said.

Iginla has picked up 24 of his 39 points on the road this season, and also has 22 points in 30 career games against the Mighty Ducks.

Calgary is 0-4-3-2 in its last nine trips to Anaheim since a 2-1 victory on Jan. 13, 1999. The Flames also come in on a three-game winless streak (0-2-1) following Saturday's loss to Dallas.

Anaheim finally earned its first win of 2004, posting a 2-1 victory at Vancouver on Saturday.

Vaclav Prospal and Todd Simpson scored and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 24 shots, including a penalty shot, for the Ducks, who are 1-5-3-0 since last winning on New Year's Eve.

"That's the hockey we played last year in the playoffs," said Giguere, the playoff MVP after leading Anaheim to within a win of the Stanley Cup title last season. "We played good defensively and capitalized on our chances."

Prospal also showed signs of a return to his form of last season, when he scored a career-best 22 goals and 79 points with the Tampa Bay Lightning before signing a five-year, $16.4 million contract in Anaheim as a free agent. He ended a 17-game goal drought Saturday, scoring for the first time since Dec. 7 against the Stars.

"We don't really have too many hot guys on this team right now so whoever can score a goal it's a huge plus," said Prospal.
