Red Wings-Mighty Ducks Preview

GAME: Detroit Red Wings (27-14-5-2) at Anaheim Mighty Ducks (14-21-7-5).

TIME: Wednesday, 10:30 p.m. EST.

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks look to end a six-game home winless streak when they meet the Central Division-leading Detroit Red Wings for the third time this season.

Anaheim ended an eight-game winless skid with a 2-1 road victory over Vancouver on Saturday, but then returned home and lost 5-1 to Calgary on Monday.

The Ducks are 0-3-3 in their last six games at Arrowhead Pond since beating the Colorado Avalanche 1-0 on Dec. 19. Anaheim hasn't gone winless in seven straight at home since an 0-8-3 slide from Jan. 5-Feb. 14, 2001.

On Monday, Anaheim's Sergei Fedorov scored late in the first period before Calgary scored five unanswered goals in the final 40 minutes.

The Ducks peppered the Flames with 37 shots -- including 20 in the opening period -- but failed to score more than one goal for the third time in four games.

"We had every opportunity in the world to score and we didn't finish," Anaheim coach Mike Babcock said. "They finished their opportunities and got better. We got discouraged."

Detroit began its five-game road trip with a 2-1 loss to San Jose on Monday to fall to 1-2-1-1 in its last five games. Despite picking up just one win during that span, the Wings are still on top of the Central.

Detroit has lost just three times in regulation in its last 20 games, earning 28 of a possible 40 points to open a four-point lead over the St. Louis Blues in the division.

The Wings lead the NHL with 154 goals, but have scored only nine times in the last five games.

Detroit captain Steve Yzerman moved into a tie for sixth place with Mario Lemieux on the NHL's career scoring list when he picked up his 1,701st point on a late goal Monday.

"We were plenty strong in the second and third periods," Yzerman said. "We had our chances, and we moved the puck around."

Brett Hull failed to score for the 19th straight game, extending the longest goal drought of his career. Hull, who leads Detroit with 27 assists, has 16 goals in 47 games this season.
