Mighty Ducks-Flames Preview

GAME: Anaheim Mighty Ducks (16-22-8-6) at Calgary Flames (25-19-4-3).

TIME: Sunday, 3 p.m. EST.

Looking to bounce back from an embarrassing and potentially costly defeat, the Calgary Flames hope to improve their standing in the Western Conference playoff race when they host the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

The Flames, one of five teams battling for one of the final four postseason spots in the West, fell 5-3 to Chicago on Friday night. The victory broke a franchise-record, 19-game road losing streak for the last-place Blackhawks.

Calgary led 3-1 midway through the second period after a goal from Jarome Iginla, but the Blackhawks got four straight goals from Tuomo Ruutu, Tyler Arnason, Steve Sullivan and Mark Bell.

"When you have a two-goal lead and guys make glaring mistakes for goals against, that's disappointing," Calgary coach Darryl Sutter said. "You can't give up that many goals and win - and that's two games in a row in our building that we've done that, and that's inexcusable."

Iginla had two goals and an assist for the Flames, who also got a goal from Toni Lydman. But Calgary needs to get back on the winning track quickly to keep pace in the tightly bunched conference.

The Flames will be looking for a better performance in front of the Pengrowth Saddledome fans in the second game of a five-game homestand. Calgary is 1-3 in its last four home contests.

Calgary will be facing an Anaheim club that is coming off a 4-3 overtime victory over former captain Paul Kariya and the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night. The game was Kariya's first at the Arrowhead Pond since leaving the Ducks and signing a one-year contract with the Avs.

Sergei Fedorov and Vaclav Prospal each had a goal and two assists, and defenseman Niclas Havelid scored with 1:21 left in overtime for the Ducks.

"We started the game with a lot of confidence," Fedorov said. "We were skating well as a group and going pretty hard. We matched up well against their top lines and when we had chances against them, we scored. We're excited about this win and we should build on it."

The Ducks will take any momentum they can get right now. The defending conference champions are last in the Pacific Division and a long shot to even make the postseason.

Anaheim center Rob Niedermayer was scratched Friday after aggravating a groin injury in Wednesday's overtime loss to the Kings. He isn't expected to play again until after the All-Star break.
