Mighty Ducks-Flames Preview

GAME: Anaheim Mighty Ducks (18-23-8-7) at Calgary Flames (28-20-5-3).

TIME: Friday, 9 p.m. EST.

The Calgary Flames look to continue their climb in the Western Conference standings when they go for their third straight victory in a matchup with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

The Flames moved into a tie for fifth place in the West with a 3-2 victory at Vancouver on Wednesday night. Coupled with Dallas' 4-4 tie with the New York Islanders, Calgary pulled even with the Stars, who don't play again until Saturday.

Flames captain Jarome Iginla broke a tie 28 seconds into the third period Wednesday, and Roman Turek made 13 of his 32 saves in the third as Calgary rallied from a 2-0 first-period deficit.

With 26 games left, Calgary is poised to end its seven-year playoff drought - the longest active streak in the NHL.

"We got a lot of games left, but I think we are in the best position we have been the last seven years," said Turek, who earned just his fourth win in 10 starts since returning from a knee injury.

Turek had been booed regularly by Calgary fans since his return.

"I think that was one of my best performances so far," Turek said.

Calgary battled back to tie Vancouver on goals from Craig Conroy and Chuck Kobasew before Iginla scored the winner, his 27th goal of the season.

Following Friday's game, the Flames depart on a five-game road trip.

Anaheim remains in last place in the Pacific Division, but will also be trying for its third win in a row Friday. The Mighty Ducks defeated Phoenix 5-3 on Wednesday night behind the red-hot Vaclav Prospal.

The forward scored his 10th goal in 11 games for the winner and added three assists as the Ducks earned a victory in their first game after the All-Star break.

"Vinny Prospal's really come to life. He's making great plays and feeling really good about himself," Anaheim coach Mike Babcock said.

Rookie Joffrey Lupul and Petr Sykora each had a goal and an assist, and Steve Rucchin had three assists for the Ducks. Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 22 saves for only his second victory in his last 10 starts.

While the playoffs are a longshot for the Ducks, Wednesday's victory pulled them within two points of Phoenix, the team directly ahead of them in the Pacific.
