Mighty Ducks-Canucks Preview

GAME: Anaheim Mighty Ducks (18-24-8-7) at Vancouver Canucks (31-17-7-3).

TIME: Saturday, 10 p.m. EST.

If the Vancouver Canucks want the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs, they have a funny way of showing it.

The Canucks will try to put and end to their two-game slide at home and continue their pursuit of West-leading Colorado when they take on the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

Currently fourth overall in the conference despite having the third-most points, the Canucks are just 1-3-0-1 in February following a five-game winning streak from Jan. 21-31.

Vancouver trails Colorado by four points in the Northwest Division race with 24 games to play. The Canucks had a chance to cut the deficit in half Friday, but instead were beaten 4-1 by Atlanta, which had been winless in its previous 10 games (0-8-2).

The Canucks tied a franchise record by allowing just one shot on goal in the first period and managed 13 of their own, but did not score.

Daniel Sedin scored for the Canucks.

Matt Cooke returned to the Vancouver lineup after missing more than a month with a knee injury and had a minus-2 rating with two shots in a little more than 12 minutes.

The Mighty Ducks had their modest two-game winning streak snapped with Friday's 2-1 loss to Calgary. Steve Rucchin scored for the Ducks, who have just one win in their last nine road games (1-7-0-1).

"This hurts because we need all the points we can get. It's desperation time," Ducks center Andy McDonald said.

Anaheim is 13th in the conference, 11 points out of a playoff spot with 25 games remaining.

Peter Schastlivy, acquired Feb. 4 from Ottawa, made his Anaheim debut Friday, finishing with an even rating and two shots on goal.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere, last season's Conn Smythe Trophy winner, made his second straight start in goal following a 17-day stretch in which he played just 47 minutes.
