Mighty Ducks-Coyotes Preview

GAME: Anaheim Mighty Ducks (25-30-9-8) at Phoenix Coyotes (20-31-16-5).

TIME: Tuesday, 9 p.m. EST.

As the Phoenix Coyotes try to break their 12-game winless streak, they could again be without captain Shane Doan.

Doan, who has missed two games with a charley horse, said he is questionable for the Coyotes' matchup with the visiting Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

Doan leads the Coyotes in points and assists, and has scored 23 goals this season - second on the team to Ladislav Nagy, who is out for the remainder of the season with a dislocated left wrist.

The Coyotes have not won since beating Columbus 3-2 on Feb. 20. Their slide continued Sunday with a 4-1 loss to Colorado.

Despite their struggles, Coyotes coach Rick Bowness said he was pleased with the way his team played against the Avalanche.

"We played much better than the score indicated," he said. "It was 1-0 going into the third period, and we had a great chance to win. Then we had three or four glorious scoring opportunities right off the bat and didn't score.

"The only thing hurting us right now is our inexperience, and there's nothing anybody can do about that. We just have to let the kids play and learn from their mistakes."

The Ducks have also struggled of late, losing four straight by a combined score of 15-5. It is Anaheim's longest skid since opening the season with five losses.

Now 11 points behind the Los Angeles Kings for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, the Ducks are about to become the first since 1993 to fail to make the playoffs a season after advancing to the Stanley Cup finals.

After the Ducks fell to the Kings 5-1 on Sunday, goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere said Anaheim's defensive effort needs to improve.

"(The Kings) played pretty well, but we've got to make a commitment to defense a little bit more," Giguere said. "That's the bottom line. We've got to be less intimidated by those guys."
