Blues-Ducks Preview
Associated Press

The Anaheim Ducks haven't suffered a home loss to the St. Louis Blues in more than four years. With the way both teams are playing, that fact may be unlikely to change soon.

The undefeated Ducks look to extend their unbeaten streak against the Blues at Honda Center to seven games when they host a St. Louis team riding its franchise-worst road losing streak on Monday.

The Ducks (2-0-0) have earned five wins and a tie in their last six home meetings with the Blues (0-1-1), outscoring them 24-14 in that span. Anaheim, which also won the 2005-06 season series 3-1 against St. Louis, appears poised to continue that success after opening the season with back-to-back victories.

Anaheim has not lost to the Blues at home since a 3-2 defeat on March 17, 2002.

The Ducks got power-play goals from Teemu Selanne and Dustin Penner in the first period Saturday and held on for a 2-1 win over Phoenix. That followed a 4-3 victory over Los Angeles in Friday's season opener.

"In our minds, we didn't play a very complete game (Friday) night, but we were a better team (Saturday night)," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "It's only the second game of the year. I think every team is still a work in progress. We're no different. Our work ethic has been strong and that's what we're going to continue to build on."

Both Anaheim goaltenders have started strong. Jean-Sebastien Giguere had a 41-save effort in the opener and Ilya Bryzgalov followed with 34 stops Saturday.

Giguere is 8-5 with one tie and a 2.43 goals-against average in 15 career starts versus the Blues while Bryzgalov has never started against them, but allowed two goals on 14 shots in a 3-2 loss on Oct. 19.

The Ducks, who reached the Western Conference finals last season after finishing with the most wins (43) and points (98) in team history, are hoping to kick off their five-game homestand with another victory.

St. Louis concludes a season-opening three-game road trip and tries to snap its record 11-game road losing streak. The Blues, who have been outscored 41-22 during the skid, suffered their latest setback Saturday with a 4-1 loss to the Kings.

Martin Rucinsky scored St. Louis' lone goal on a power play, the only extra-man opportunity the team has converted on 11 chances this season. The Blues were bogged down by 36 penalty minutes and have been whistled for 52 this season.

"We had 21 penalties in the first two games, that's not going to make things easy," said Blues center Doug Weight, who returned to the Blues in the offseason after being traded to Stanley Cup champion Carolina last January. "Both games were in our grasp, but we're repeatedly going back to the penalty box."

Those penalties have increased pressure on goaltender Manny Legace, who has struggled to a 4.46 GAA and .862 save percentage this season.

Legace, who was acquired from Detroit in the offseason, has excelled against the Ducks, going 8-1 along with a tie in 13 career games. He has posted a 1.98 GAA and .921 save percentage in those contests.

St. Louis may be without defenseman Barret Jackman, who left Saturday's game with a sore left knee.
