Ducks-Sharks Preview

The way the Anaheim Ducks are playing away from the Honda Center, they may wish they could play a few more road games before returning home.

The Ducks wrap up a five-game trip looking to extend their franchise-record road winning streak to eight games when they visit the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

Anaheim (25-3-6) has taken over the league's best record by winning five straight and 10 of 11, with much of that success coming on the road.

The Ducks beat Atlanta 2-1 on Thursday, improving their league-best road record to 12-1-2. They had never won more than five straight away from home before this seven-game run, which dates back to a 3-2 shootout loss at Colorado on Nov. 22.

"I know what we are capable of," said Teemu Selanne, who had two goals against the Thrashers. "We raised the bar higher."

Selanne, among the league leaders with 19 goals, scored his team-leading 11th power-play goal of the season.

The Ducks have at least one power-play goal in 15 of their last 17 games, and are first in the NHL in power-play percentage (22.6).

Selanne has five mulitgoal games this season - all in the last 13 games - and has eight goals and four assists in his last eight road games.

He had two goals in Anaheim's 5-0 win over the Sharks (23-10-0) on Nov. 21, as Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 23 shots for his third shutout of the season.

Giguere is 4-2-1 with a 2.49 goals-against average and two shutouts against San Jose since the start of last season, and has been outstanding in goal for Anaheim lately.

He made 34 saves on Thursday to win his ninth straight start, posting a 1.88 GAA with one shutout in that span. Giguere has been in net for each game of the seven-game road winning streak, and is 10-0-2 with a 2.00 GAA on the road this season.

The Ducks lead second-place San Jose by 10 points in the Pacific Division, and are 6-6 at HP Pavilion since the 2001-02 season.

The Sharks had a three-game winning streak snapped on Thursday, losing 4-2 to Los Angeles in the opener of a season-high six-game homestand. San Jose is 11-4 at home this season, but has lost two of its last four at HP Pavilion.

The Sharks started slowly against the Kings, trailing 4-0 before scoring two late goals.

"We just weren't ready to play from the get-go," San Jose coach Ron Wilson said. "It just wasn't there for almost two periods. Maybe the last 15 minutes of the game, we played with a sense of urgency. ... We'll get beat 10-0 if we bring this performance against Anaheim."

Center Patrick Marleau leads San Jose with 14 goals, but hasn't scored in his last six games. Marleau, who has a seven-game goal-scoring drought against the Ducks, has not gone seven straight games without a goal since March 23-April 4, 2004.

Wilson has alternated goalies Vesa Toskala and Evgeni Nabokov this season, and after Toskala stopped 27 shots against the Kings, Nabokov is due up. However, Nabokov took the loss against the Ducks earlier in the season, and has lost his last three games against them, allowing 11 goals.
