Flames-Ducks Preview
Associated Press

The Anaheim Ducks are making a brief stop at home in between a pair of long road trips.

The league-leading Ducks look to bounce back from their first loss in six games Monday when they host Jarome Iginla and the Calgary Flames.

Anaheim (25-4-6) wrapped up a season high-tying five-game road trip on Saturday with a 4-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks. The Ducks, who lead the NHL with 56 points, now play two games at home before heading out on another five-game trip.

However, the Ducks have had success this season no matter where they've played. They are 13-2-4 in their own arena - the most home wins in the league - and 12-2-2 on the road.

Anaheim has been especially tough against Calgary at the Honda Center in recent seasons. The Ducks have won four straight home games against the Flames and are 10-1-3 in the last 14 meetings between the teams in Anaheim.

The home team has won both matchups so far in the season series. The Ducks beat the Flames 5-3 in Anaheim on Nov. 26. On Nov. 10 at Calgary, though, the Flames beat Anaheim 3-0 and handed the Ducks their first regulation loss in their 17th game of 2006-07.

Anaheim's 12-0-4 start to the season was the best in NHL history.

Saturday's defeat ended Anaheim's second five-game winning streak of the season. Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Dustin Penner each scored for the Ducks, while Andy McDonald had one assist to extend his point streak to six games. McDonald has one goal and seven assists during the run.

The Ducks squandered leads of 2-0 and 3-2 in the defeat, and lost despite outshooting San Jose 35-29.

"We had lots of bounces go our way before this game, so this is the way it goes sometimes," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said. "I'm still real proud of our work ethic."

Anaheim also won five straight from Nov. 24-Dec. 2, and the team has 10 victories in its last 12 games overall.

The Flames (16-11-3) won for the sixth time in eight games on Saturday, beating Phoenix 6-3. Iginla, who ranks among the NHL leaders with 20 goals and 41 points, had two goals and two assists for the second time in three games.

"Jarome's focus is to be top captain in this league," coach Jim Playfair said. "To be a top captain, you need to be a top player in leading your team. That's his focus."

The four points matched a career high for Iginla, who has nine goals and eight assists in his last eight games.

"Iginla was the best player on the ice, and he was the difference," Phoenix coach Wayne Gretzky said. "With the effort he gives on each and every shift and in every game, and when you have that much skill, you're going to have benefits."

The victory ended a five-game road losing streak for Calgary, which is playing the third game of a season-high six-game road trip.

The Flames have scored 17 goals to go 3-1-0 in their last four games.
