Game Notes

Since Doug Weight and Scott Niedermayer joined the Anaheim Ducks a month ago, the defending Stanley Cup champions have been one of the best teams in the league. Weight and Niedermayer will now try and lead the Ducks to their first win of the season against the Dallas Stars.

Surging Anaheim looks to win its seventh straight home game and avoid losing its fifth consecutive game to the Stars as these Pacific Division rivals meet Tuesday at the Honda Center.

Injury Updates: Rob Niedermayer is listed as "day-to-day" by Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle with a leg injury. He did skate this morning, but on his own before the rest of the team hit the ice. Carlyle also said Samuel Pahlsson and George Parros are "not ready," which is why the Ducks recalled forward Drew Miller from Portland yesterday. Pahlsson is still recovering from an abdominal strain, while Parros has a right knee bruise suffered in last Wednesday's win over Toronto. He was put on injured reserve retroactive to Jan. 9.

The Ducks (24-17-6) are coming off a 4-3 comeback victory over Pacific Division-leading San Jose on Sunday to win their third straight, and fifth in six games.

With Anaheim trailing by a goal, Weight scored with 28 seconds left in regulation and defenseman Francois Beauchemin scored 33 seconds into overtime to cap a 3-1 second-period deficit.

"We didn't start the way we wanted to. We gave up a goal right away on their power play at the beginning of the first and we gave up a short-handed goal," Beauchemin said. "Some nights we play good and don't win, but tonight was one of those nights where we didn't play our best and got the two points."

The Ducks are 9-2-2 since Dec. 16, when Weight played in his first game after being traded from St. Louis and Niedermayer returned after contemplating retirement. Weight has three goals and an assist during a season-high four-game point streak, while Niedermayer had a goal and seven assists in 13 games.

Goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 26 saves on Sunday, improving to 7-1-1 with a 1.65 goals-against average and two shutouts since Dec. 18.

Third-place Anaheim has moved within one point of second-place Dallas, which is just two points behind San Jose.

The Ducks have had no luck against the Stars this season, however, getting outscored 10-2 in losing the first three meetings. These teams have not played since a 2-1 Stars win on Nov. 21.

Dallas (25-17-5) has won six of the last seven meetings with the Ducks, but only one of those victories have come at the Honda Center, a 5-0 win on Nov. 5.

The Stars enter this contest having lost four of their last five road games, while the Ducks have won a season-high six straight at home. Anaheim, which is 14-6-4 at the Honda Center, has not won seven straight home games since March 7-April 4, 2006.

Dallas, which wraps up a five-game road trip against the Sharks on Thursday, lost to Los Angeles 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday.

The Stars took a 2-0 lead just 3:36 into the first period, before losing their second straight and sixth in their last eight.

"It's all about the things that are easily controllable," said goaltender Mary Turco, who stopped 26 shots against the Kings. "We need to step it up defensively and work hard and avoid the simple mistakes that we're making."

Sergei Zubov, who leads the Stars with 31 assists, missed Saturday's loss with a foot injury, but is expected to be back for this game. Zubov has four assists against Anaheim this season.

Turco has been in net for two games against the Ducks this season, recording a 0.50 GAA and a shutout. He is 15-6-2 with three ties, three shutouts and a 2.07 GAA lifetime against Anaheim.

Giguere has been in net for the Ducks in each game against the Stars this season, posting a 4.22 GAA in those contests. He is 1-5-0 with a 3.11 GAA in his last six starts against Dallas.
