Blue Jackets-Ducks Preview
Associated Press

After some extra rest following a disappointing end to their road trip, the Anaheim Ducks hope a return home - and some extra focus on their power-play - will help them regain their momentum.

The Ducks look to win their third straight at Honda Center when they face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday night.

Anaheim (14-10-3) hasn't played since Wednesday, when it allowed three late third-period goals in a 4-2 loss at Chicago. The Ducks dropped the final two contests on their three-game trip after a 4-1 victory at Carolina gave them four straight wins overall.

Teemu Selanne and Chris Pronger each scored Wednesday for the Ducks, who were outshot 41-32 and gave up a power-play goal for the first time in six games.

On Friday, Anaheim conducted two practices following Thursday's off day, focusing mainly on retooling its power-play unit.

The Ducks are 2-for-10 on the power play in the last four games and 22-of-102 (21.6 percent) for the season. Selanne leads the NHL with 13 power-play goals - five more than the three next closest players - but Anaheim is looking for someone else to step up.

"I think it's important that it's not just Teemu on our power play," coach Randy Carlyle said. "There is room for improvement in that area and that all the players that get those minutes make contribution in the goal-scoring department."

Carlyle will get a chance to see if the extra work paid off against a Columbus team that has its own troubles playing with a man advantage.

The Blue Jackets (11-12-3), who are trying to avoid a winless three-game road trip, were shut out for the first time this season, 3-0 against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. Columbus is 3-5-1 in its last nine contests, during which it's averaged 2.1 goals.

"It's been such a roller coaster," Columbus defenseman Mike Commodore said. "We play a couple of games where we lose like this, and then we win a couple. It's pretty taxing, but it's part of growing as a team."

As much as Carlyle has been frustrated by Anaheim's power-play performance, the Blue Jackets have been worse. They were 0-for-4 on the power play Saturday, making them 6-for-100 over their last 20 games and a league-worst 12-for-125 (9.6 percent) overall.

The Ducks beat the Blue Jackets 3-2 in Columbus on Oct. 27 and have won four straight in the series, including two in a row at home. Anaheim plays its next two at Honda Center, where it is 7-6-2 this season, including 3-1-0 in the last four games. The Ducks have allowed just one goal in those three victories.

"We want to establish again that we have a building that is tough to play in for the opposition," Carlyle said.

Selanne has a seven-game point streak against the Blue Jackets, tallying five goals and 10 assists during that span. He has four goals in his last three games against them, including one this season.
