Ducks and Oilers wrap up pre-Olympic schedule

DUCKS (29-25-7) at OILERS (19-35-6)

Last 10 - Anaheim 6-4-0; Edmonton 3-7-0

Season series - The teams are meeting for the second time this season - and the second this week. Anaheim won 3-2 at the Honda Center on Wednesday, extending its home winning streak to a franchise-record 11 games.

Big story - This is the last game on the NHL schedule before the Olympic break - and a must-win for the Ducks, who are four points out of the last playoff berth. Anaheim dropped a 3-1 decision at Calgary on Saturday night and can't afford to go home 0-for-Alberta with a loss to the 30th-place Oilers.

Team Scope:

Ducks - Anaheim's No. 1 center, Ryan Getzlaf, hasn't played since he hurt his left ankle in Monday's win over Los Angeles. He'll try to play -- but if he can't, it could have major repercussions about his status for Team Canada.

"We decided after the injury that we would give him as much time as he needed to determine whether he's ready to go or not," Team Canada general manager Steve Yzerman said, adding that "ideally we'd like to see him play" at Edmonton ahead of the Canadians' opener Tuesday night against Norway.

Oilers - The Oil has had two days off to savor that rarest of accomplishments this season - a road victory. They blew a 2-0 third-period lead and had to go 10 rounds in a shootout, but the Oilers left Los Angeles on Thursday with a 3-2 win - their first victory on the road in exactly two months.

That win came one day after the 3-2 loss at Anaheim, a game in which the Oilers played well, coach Pat Quinn said.

"Our overall play was fairly good," Quinn said Saturday. "Most of the night we handled the defensive zone coverage a lot better. They are a pretty good rush team so we want to be a little bit better on handling their second wave of defense. From a game-plan stand-point against the Ducks, I'd like to go in with the same effort and discipline and hopefully just get a better result."

Who's hot - Anaheim's Corey Perry has a goal and four assists in his last five games. … Bobby Ryan had two goals in Wednesday's win over the Oilers. … Dustin Penner has scored twice in Edmonton's last three games and leads the team with 24 goals.

Injury report - Edmonton forwards Sam Gagner (shoulder) and J-F Jacques (back) sat out practice on Saturday and won't play Sunday.

Stat pack - The Oilers are 4-22-2 since Dec. 15. … The Ducks have allowed 37 or more shots in each of their last three games, including 38 at Calgary. … Anaheim has won three in a row at Edmonton, but has lost 11 of its last 16 road games overall.

Puck drop - The Oilers are largely playing for pride. The Ducks are playing to make up ground in the playoff race. Neither team wants to start its mid-winter vacation with anything less than two points.
