Season Series: This is the first of two meetings between the teams; they will face each other again in Anaheim on Dec. 31. It's been a full calendar year since they last met, as Anaheim earned a 3-2 shootout victory at Philadelphia on Oct. 10, 2009.

Big Story: After missing the playoffs last season, the Ducks have stumbled out of the gate in 2010-11, as they're off to a 2-4-1 start. They've also scored a total of three goals in four road games following Wednesday's 3-1 loss at Columbus.

Team Scope:

Ducks: Despite a strong first period, Anaheim allowed a pair of goals in a span of 71 seconds early in the second on Wednesday night en route to yet another disappointment on the road. Teemu Selanne scored 58 seconds into the third period to cut the deficit in half, but Rick Nash scored an empty-net goal in the final minute for the Blue Jackets.

"I think we did some things very well, but we made mistakes, too," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said. "Tonight our power play was good in some situations, as far as creating chances. But in the latter part, we just stood around and didn't really move and attack the box. We got some shots, but everything was from the perimeter."

Flyers: Philadelphia enters Thursday's action trying to avoid a three-game skid. After a 4-2 win against Colorado on Monday, the Flyers suffered back-to-back losses against Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, respectively, and were outscored 8-3 in the process. Both defeats were suffered on home ice. Thursday marks the fourth game of a five-game homestand.

"We're not scoring a lot of goals right now," coach Peter Laviolette said following Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Penguins. "We have to do a better job in the battles for the puck. I'm not happy with where we are offensively as a group. We have to generate more."

Who's Hot: Selanne's goal on Wednesday was his third of the season and the 609th of his NHL career, moving him into sole possession of 16th place on the all-time list. Lubomir Visnovsky picked up an assist for Anaheim, which was his third. … Danny Briere has four goals in five games for the Flyers, while Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Claude Giroux, James van Riemsdyk and Ville Leino all have three points.

Injury Report: Ducks defenseman Andy Sutton is expected to miss another month with a broken finger, while forward Joffrey Lupul is out indefinitely with blood infections. … Flyers goalie Michael Leighton is out another month as he recovers from back surgery, and defenseman Matt Walker (hip) could miss 10-12 weeks. He was to undergo surgery on Wednesday.

Stat Pack: Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller entered Wednesday's game against Columbus with a 2-0-1 record and a 2.93 goals-against average and .918 save percentage in his previous three games. Hiller stopped 19 of 21 shots against the Blue Jackets. … With Saturday's loss, the the Flyers have dropped six straight home games to the Penguins, dating to Dec. 13, 2008.

Puck Drop: "The power play wasn't effective tonight. Those things kill you in games. You have to win those special teams' battles." -- Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf after Wednesday's loss at Columbus
