Mighty Ducks 6, Kings 2

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Anaheim's NHL team is still the Mighty Ducks - for another 2 1/2 months or so before the new owners have their way and lop off the "Mighty" part. It could be worse. At least they won't be the Los Angeles Ducks of Anaheim.

The Kings are and will remain L.A.'s only hockey team, but the Ducks won Southern California bragging rights on Saturday with a 6-2 rout of the Kings. Corey Perry had two goals and an assist, Scott Niedermayer had a goal and two assists, and the Ducks tied a franchise record with four power-play goals.

"We came out and skated and did what we wanted to do, and it paid off," Niedermayer said. "When we had chances, we put it in the net. There's no recipe for that. It was just one of those nights. Some nights it doesn't work quite as smoothly as this and we don't score quite as many goals."

Chris Kunitz scored his sixth goal in nine games and had an assist, helping the Ducks win at Staples Center for only the second time in their last 14 trips up the freeway.

Joffrey Lupul and Ryan Getzlaf also scored for Anaheim, while Andy McDonald had three assists. Teemu Selanne had two assists, giving him 20 points in his last 14 games. He needs two more to become the 70th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career points, and the seventh who was born and trained in Europe.

"We were ready to play," Selanne said. "We haven't had much success in this building, so this was a good confidence boost. We got some huge goals from other lines."

It's the first time the Ducks have won consecutive games in regulation since a four-game stretch from Nov. 25 to Dec. 3. They did it without defenseman Ruslan Salei, who was struck near the right eye by a deflected puck in a victory at San Jose on Thursday and sustained a hairline fracture of the orbital bone.

Ilya Bryzgalov made 30 saves after beating the Sharks 2-0 for his first NHL shutout. It's the first time the rookie has made consecutive starts since Dec. 6, when he started his seventh straight game while Jean-Sebastien Giguere was sidelined by a sore left hamstring.

Michael Cammalleri scored a pair of power-play goals for the Kings, who lost their third straight game despite the return of two key regulars. Pavol Demitra missed the previous 10 games because of nerve damage in his right leg, and Eric Belanger was sidelined for 13 games with a groin strain.

Goalie Mathieu Garon was replaced by Jason LaBarbera at 4:37 of the second period after Anaheim built a 5-1 lead with 22 shots on net. The Ducks scored on three of their first eight shots against Garon after Cammalleri gave the Kings the lead at 2:07 of the first period with his 18th goal.

"This is the time of year when you have to pay attention to details as a team, and right now we're not doing the little things right," Luc Robitaille said. "Every team is going to play us hard, and every team knows we work hard. But it's mental mistakes that's costing us games right now."

The Ducks connected on four of their first five power plays. Lupul tied it 57 seconds after Cammalleri's goal with his 18th of the season while George Parros was off for charging.

Perry put the Ducks ahead to stay at the 9-minute mark of the first. Getzlaf made it 3-1 less than 3 minutes later, converting Perry's centering pass while Kings defenseman Mike Weaver was off for hooking.

Kunitz scored his 12th goal just 54 seconds into the second period, and the rout was on. Niedermayer's one-timer went in off the skate of Perry less than 4 minutes later during another power play, and Niedermayer made it 6-1 at 7:35 of the second while Jeff Cowan was off for charging.

The Kings have surrendered 11 power-play goals in their last five games.

"We're definitely going to have to fix that," Robitaille said. "Power plays and PKs are what wins you games in the playoffs. And let's face it, from here to the end of the year it's like the playoffs. So we have no choice to fix that problem. This wasn't a good game, but it's good that we get another chance at them Monday night."

Notes: The Ducks are 2-3 against the Kings this season and 24-30 overall. There have been 11 ties. ... Kings D Tim Gleason left in the first period with a bruised knee. ... Robitaille, who broke Marcel Dionne's franchise record for goals on Jan. 19, will be honored for his achievement in a ceremony preceding the Feb. 12 game against Dallas.
