DETROIT (AP) -Marian Hossa knew if the Red Wings kept shooting, the puck would finally go in.

And it did, on a shot by Hossa early in the third period that gave Detroit a 2-1 win over Anaheim on Monday night. The Red Wings outshot the Ducks 47-16.

Johan Franzen also scored for Detroit and Chris Osgood made 15 saves.

"We tried to stay patient. We were, I think, all over them and we outshoot them," Hossa said. "It was just a matter of time when the one squeezed in and it squeezed in and tight game. We did lots of more shots."

Chris Kunitz scored Anaheim's goal and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 37 shots before being removed after two periods. He has a history of groin injuries and was beginning to cramp up.

"Decided after two periods that he had seen enough rubber for one game and not take a chance," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said.

Jonas Hiller made eight saves in the third period as Anaheim had its four-game winning streak snapped.

Hossa got the winner 1:48 into the third period when he beat Hiller from the right circle to convert a two-on-one pass from Dan Cleary.

"Clears had the puck and I just tried to wait for him and I knew it was a matter of time when he was going to make the pass to me," Hossa said. "Basically I just tried to shoot at the net and I think it surprised the goalie by the five-hole."

Hossa hesitated before shooting, which threw Hiller off.

"I was expecting one-timer and I was already down," Hiller said.

It was Hossa's 14th goal and the second straight Red Wings' win in which he broke a third period tie.

Kunitz opened the scoring just 1:50 into the game on Anaheim's first shot, when he stuffed in the puck from beside the net for his fifth goal. It was set up by Detroit defenseman Brad Stuart's giveaway behind his own net.

The Red Wings gave up a goal on the opponent's first shot for the second consecutive game.

Franzen tied it 1-all with 5:34 left in the second period - on Detroit's 32nd shot of the game - when he tipped in Nicklas Lidstrom's shot from the point out of midair and past Giguere for his 11th goal.

"It was good to get that first one past him," Franzen said. "It usually takes a goal like that, a redirection, an ugly goal. He was playing real good."

Notes: Detroit RW Tomas Holmstrom missed his seventh game with back spasms. ... Anaheim C Brian Sutherby missed his sixth game with an injured groin. ... Red Wings' RW Darren McCarty missed his second game with a sore groin. ... Franzen's goal was his 100th career point.
