Recap

In a game featuring much more pomp and circumstance than your average NHL preseason affair, the Ducks got a big overtime goal from Ryan Getzlaf to defeat host Jokerit 4-3 at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki.

Game Photos
A two-goal lead for Anaheim evaporated in the third period to send the game into overtime. Just 1:13 into that extra session, Getzlaf knocked in the game-winner from the edge of the crease after getting a feed from Corey Perry to give the Ducks the win and finish their 2011-12 preseason schedule with a 4-4-0 record.

The Ducks were outshot 33-24 in the game, including 27-16 in the final two periods.

Perry led Anaheim with two goals in the contest, both of which came in the first period to get the club on the scoreboard first. Goaltender Jonas Hiller also played a big part in the victory, making critical saves throughout to ensure the Ducks never trailed in the game.

Jokerit, which began its season in the Finnish Elite League with a 6-0-1 record, cut the lead to one near the end of the second period. Tommy Kivisto converted on a nice pass from Ilari Filppula with 1:04 left in the middle frame.

The Ducks were able to get that goal right back however, as Cam Fowler found the back of the net from the high slot with 5.9 seconds remaining in the second.

Not long after the pucked dropped for the third period, the Ducks were denied on a good chance to add to their lead. Jokerit ensued on an odd-man rush down the ice, where Riku Hahl tapped in a rebound past Hiller to get within one of the lead again.

Ben Eaves delighted the Jokerit fans by tying the game with 3:57 remaining in regulation, as Boston College product also converted on a rebound in front of Hiller. But that would be all of the scoring for Jokerit on the night, as they were unable to seize the lead the rest of the way.

The exhibition marked the return of Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu and Toni Lydman to their native Finland. While Lydman was unable to play due to his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery, Koivu and Selanne received enormous applause when announced to the crowd. Selanne, who has played with Jokerit during a couple different stints, received an oversized Jokerit membership card along with Hall-of-Famer Jari Kurri before the game.

With preseason now complete, the Ducks will shift their attention to the season opener on Friday against the Buffalo Sabres. That game will also be played at Hartwall Arena. Anaheim will then make a short trip to Stockholm, Sweden for a Saturday game against the New York Rangers.

Notes

Matt Beleskey (shoulder) and Kurtis Foster (thigh) each made their preseason debuts for the Ducks. After the game, Carlyle confirmed that Lydman would not be available for the two games in Europe.
