Ducks Blanked by Predators in Rematch of Playoffs

In a rematch of last season's Western Conference Quarterfinals, the Ducks were shutout by the Predators 3-0 at Bridgestone Arena.

It was the first time this season Anaheim failed to register at least one goal on the scoreboard.

The Ducks (5-4-1) were hoping for a little revenge at Nashville, where their season came to an end with a Game 6 loss to the Predators in the first round of the 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs. The two teams next meet on Nov. 9 back at Honda Center.

Nashville was the third stop in the Ducks' current seven-game road trip, which is tied for the third longest in club history. This weekend features the only back-to-back on the trek, as the team will play in Columbus on Sunday.

Jonas Hiller, making his ninth start of 2011-12, made 26 saves in the loss. Francois Beauchemin played a team-high 25:07 on the night.

Pekka Rinne made 20 saves for the Predators in his 100th career win. He set a franchise record with 22 shutouts, two this season.

Patric Hornqvist, Martin Erat and Shea Weber each scored for Nashville, who improved to 5-4-1 on the year.

Hornqvist wasted little time putting the Predators on the board, scoring 14 seconds into the game. In a crowd in front of the net, Hornqvist took a rebound of his own shot that that went off the left leg pad of  Hiller and backhanded the puck past Hiller's outstretched leg.

With 7:19 left in the first period Nashville's Mike Fisher was knocked down in the center ice circle by Beauchemin. Fisher, playing in only his third game of the season after having shoulder surgery, has an upper body injury.

Erat, back on the ice after missing the last eight games with an upper body injury, scored his first goal of the season with 1:01 remaining in the first period. Jordin Tootoo passed the puck from the right circle to Erat as he skated in from the left side. Erat found the upper part of the net with a wrist shot from low on the left side.

The teams were scoreless in the second period.

At 2:14 of the third period Weber hit a shot on the power play from just inside the blue line for his first goal of the season.

NOTES: Rinne has started all 10 games this season, a franchise record. ... Nashville's Ryan Suter was credited with two assists. ... Anaheim's Corey Perry ended a six-game points streak which was tied for the longest points streak of the season.
