Perreault Gives Ducks a Thrilling 4-3 Overtime Victory

In a back-and-forth overtime session, it was Mathieu Perreault who snuck one past netminder Niklas Backstrom with 4.9 seconds remaining to give Anaheim a thrilling 4-3 victory in front of a packed house at the Xcel Energy Center.

After he nearly won it on the previous rush, Perreault raced back up the ice and received a beautiful pass from Francois Beauchemin. Perreault then swiftly snuck a backhander through the five hole, giving him his second point of the night. It might've been an entirely different outcome if it wasn't for the persistent backcheck of defenseman Cam Fowler, who raced back to erase a Minnesota 2-on-1. It was his defensive stop that allowed the Ducks to churn up the ice and win the game.

Anaheim got off to fast starts in the first and second periods, scoring within 100 seconds of the opening faceoff each time. Jakob Silfverberg's goal 1:19 into the second period gave the Ducks a 3-1 lead.

But the Wild made it 3-2 at 8:28 when Jason Pominville's power-play blast from the left point deflected off Ducks defenseman Fowler's stick and past Jonas Hiller. Zach Parise forced overtime when he scored his second of the game 1:15 into the third period.

The Wild had several quality chances in the closing minutes of regulation but could not get the puck past Jonas Hiller, who made 30 saves.

The Ducks have split their first two games, both on the road, and conclude a three-game trip Sunday night against the Winnipeg Jets. Teemu Selanne, who sat out Saturday, is scheduled to play against his former team.

Anaheim, coming off a 6-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday, wasted no time grabbing an early advantage. Saku Koivu's tip-in of a Beauchemin shot gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead just 1:40 into the game, and Nick Bonino poked in a power-play goal at 5:43 to make it 2-0.

Minnesota took advantage of its first power play as Mikko Koivu set up Parise with a brilliant pass from behind the net to the left circle at 11:52 to make it 2-1. But Silfverberg's snap shot from the right hash mark beat Backstrom to restore the Ducks' two-goal lead.

Parise tied it when he took a chip pass from defenseman Keith Ballard in front of Hiller and pushed the puck into the net for the 30th multi-goal game of his career and fifth with Minnesota.

Wild forward Charlie Coyle left the game in the second period with a lower-body injury and did not return.
