Canucks-Mighty Ducks Preview

GAME: Vancouver Canucks (23-11-6-2) at Anaheim Mighty Ducks (13-17-6-5).

TIME: Friday, 10:30 p.m. EST.

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks need to improve their play in a hurry if they want another chance at winning the Stanley Cup.

The Mighty Ducks look to break out of their recent four-game winless streak as they host the high-scoring Vancouver Canucks.

Anaheim, which made a surprising run in the playoffs last season before losing to New Jersey in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, has a losing record and is in last place in the Pacific Division.

The Ducks are 0-2-2 in their last four games, and 2-5-2 over their last nine.

"We just haven't been playing good hockey, playing together as a team," Anaheim captain Steve Rucchin said. "We haven't been getting the best out of our guys all at the same time. Some guys show up and other guys don't and, of course, we can't have that."

Rucchin believes the Ducks can turn things around again.

"We've still got half the season left and we're not too far out of the race," Rucchin said. "Things are still within our reach."

Anaheim salvaged a point when Todd Simpson ended an 84-game goal-scoring drought with a third period goal in the Ducks 4-4 tie against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday.

Michael Holmqvist tied it twice in the first period with his first two NHL goals. Sergei Fedorov had a power-play goal for the Ducks, who scored on three of their first six shots against Cristobal Huet.

Anaheim will try for a similar effort against Canucks goalie Dan Cloutier, who stopped 16 of 17 shots to lead Vancouver to a 3-1 win over the Kings on Thursday. Magnus Arvedson scored twice and Daniel Sedin notched his fifth goal of the year for the Canucks.

Vancouver center Todd Bertuzzi failed to score.

Bertuzzi, who signed a $28 million, four-year contract extension in October after scoring a career-high 46 goals last season, has three goals in his last 20 games. Bertuzzi has 11 goals and is tied with teammate Markus Naslund for the team lead in assists with 26.
