GAME: Anaheim Mighty Ducks (21-24-8-8) at Dallas Stars (29-22-10-0).
TIME: Sunday, 4 p.m. EST.
Coming off a big victory over a fellow Western Conference power, the Dallas Stars will look to build momentum when they take on the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the second game of a season-high eight-game homestand.
Jason Arnott scored three goals and Pierre Turgeon added a power-play goal and an assist as the Stars routed Colorado 5-1 on Friday night for their first win over the Avalanche this season.
The Stars had been outscored 11-3 by the Avalanche, the Northwest Division leaders, in their first three meetings.
"We wish we could play every game like that," Arnott said. "They had an off night and we played well. I wanted to go at it as hard as I could. Tonight the pucks just went in."
Sergei Zubov and Bill Guerin each had two assists for the Stars, and Marty Turco needed to make just 15 saves as Dallas sent slumping Colorado to its third straight loss.
The Stars are 10-3-2 in their last 15 games and six points behind first-place San Jose in the Pacific Division. The Sharks don't play again until Monday.
Dallas will look to close that gap at the American Airlines Center, a building that will be a constant for the Stars through March 7, when they close out their long homestand. The Stars have been a much better team at home this season, going 17-6-6-0 in Dallas, and haven't lost at their home arena in a season-high seven games since Jan. 10 (5-0-2).
Friday's victory improved Dallas to 12-1-1 when Arnott scores a goal.
The Stars will be concluding their season series with the Mighty Ducks, who saw their three-game winning streak end with a 3-2 overtime loss to Nashville on Friday night.
Scott Walker scored at 3:34 of the extra period as Nashville won despite blowing a two-goal lead after two periods.
Ducks defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski tied it with 9:12 left in regulation and assisted on Samuel Pahlsson's goal early in the third period, but Anaheim had its five-game home winning streak snapped.
"It was a poor effort by us for two periods," Ducks captain Steve Rucchin said. "It was just poor puck decisions, and you can't really make it work the way we're playing. Obviously, the third period is something positive to take away from this game, but I don't know why we decided to wait that long."
Anaheim could have newly acquired defenseman Martin Skoula in its lineup Sunday. He was obtained from Colorado for defenseman Kurt Sauer and a fourth-round draft choice in 2005 on Saturday.
