GAME: Anaheim Mighty Ducks (15-13-6) at San Jose Sharks (14-13-4).
TIME: Tuesday, 10:30 p.m. EST.
The Anaheim Mighty Ducks snapped the San Jose Sharks' six-game overall winning streak and five-game win streak in the series over the weekend. The Sharks look to get back to dominating the Ducks when the teams complete their home-and-home set at HP Pavilion.
San Jose rolled into Sunday's contest at Anaheim with a 6-0 mark since acquiring All-Star center Joe Thornton from Boston, but the Ducks stopped that run with a 5-4 victory.
Rob Niedermayer scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period to give Thornton his first taste of defeat since arriving from the Bruins on Nov. 30.
"Hopefully we won't have too many of these losses," said Thornton, who leads the NHL with 36 assists and is second in points with 48. "I like winning games. Hopefully, starting Tuesday, we can get on another streak."
Anaheim won the first meeting of the season 1-0 at San Jose on Nov. 4, but Sunday's loss was the Sharks' first to the Mighty Ducks since a 3-2 defeat at Arrowhead Pond on Dec. 10, 2003.
The Mighty Ducks a one-goal lead four times Sunday before Niedermayer's goal.
"It's pretty disheartening when you get up and they come back right away," Niedermayer said. "It just shows how dangerous a team they are. They never let up."
Despite the loss, San Jose still has a winning record, making the Pacific Division the only one with each of its teams above .500.
"Every team in our division is very strong," said Anaheim's Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who made 30 saves Sunday. "So every time we can get a win it doesn't matter if it's 10-9 or 1-0. We just have to be happy with it."
Anaheim last won at San Jose on Oct. 21, 2003.
