Mighty Ducks-Stars Preview

GAME: Anaheim Mighty Ducks (18-15-6) at Dallas Stars (25-12-2).

TIME: Friday, 8:30 p.m. EST.

Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco doesn't give the Anaheim Mighty Ducks much of a chance to win when the teams play each other.

One day after signing a four-year contract extension, Turco looks to lead the Stars look to their fifth straight win over the low-scoring Ducks when the clubs meet at the American Airlines Center.

Turco has faced Anaheim the second-most times of any team in his career, going 9-2-3 against them with a 1.49 goals-against average in 15 games. He defeated them three times from Nov. 13-23, allowing four goals.

Turco has shut Anaheim out twice in his career and has allowed the Ducks to score three or more goals only twice.

Turco, who is signed through the 2009-10 season, made 21 saves to lift the Stars to a 3-1 win over Vancouver on Wednesday night. Steve Ott, Jason Arnott and Mike Modano scored in the final eight minutes as Dallas rallied to avoid a third straight loss.

"We got rewarded for the good things we've been doing," Stars coach Dave Tippett said. "It was nice to see the team come together a little bit. The third period kind of wrapped it all up."

Arnott, who had one goal in his previous 17 games, scored the winner for his 12th goal of the season.

"The puck hadn't been going in lately," Arnott said. "I had to stick with it and stay positive. I'm glad I finally got one in."

Arnott has five goals in his last two games against the Ducks, including his only hat trick of the season Nov. 16.

Brenden Morrow assisted on Arnott's goal. Morrow has a five-game point streak against Anaheim, with two goals and five assists in that span.

During their four-game winning streak over the Ducks, the Stars are outscoring them 14-4. The Stars held Anaheim to 22 shots, including only three in the third period, in their last meeting Nov. 23. Dallas is allowing an average of 25.1 shots, lowest in the league.

Anaheim had 21 shots in the first period, though, in its 4-2 win over Nashville on Sunday. The Ducks fell behind 2-0 in the first before scoring three times in six minutes to close out the period.

Joffrey Lupul scored twice in a 3:09 span of the first to give him a career-high 15 goals. Lupul, in his second season, has seven goals and eight assists in his last 15 games.

"We played a lot harder than we have in a lot of the games so far this season, specifically on the road. And we were rewarded," said Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle, whose team won its second straight and third in four games.

The Ducks have only five road wins, and their 39 goals in 17 road games are tied for fewest in the league.

After losing seven in a row away from the Arrowhead Pond early in the season, Anaheim has won back-to-back road contests for the first time in 2005-06. The Ducks are 2-1 on a season-high tying five-game trip.

"To start out the road trip with a loss at Columbus, and then win the next two, especially this one against Nashville which has the best home record in the league is pretty impressive," Lupul said.
