GAME: San Jose Sharks (23-19-7) at Anaheim Mighty Ducks (24-17-10).
TIME: Wednesday, 10:30 p.m. EST.
Two nights after reaching a major milestone, Teemu Selanne hopes to continue his scoring tear and lead the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to their fourth straight win as they face the San Jose Sharks.
Selanne scored two goals on Monday to reach 1,000 career points in Anaheim's 4-3 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
"Only 70 players in NHL history have done that, so it's a big honor to be in that club," the nine-time All-Star said. "I'm very lucky that I've always played with great players who have helped me a lot. You can't score 1,000 points if you don't have great linemates and great teammates.
"It was an unbelievable night and a good ending, too."
Scott Niedermayer scored his ninth career overtime winner, the most by a defenseman in league history, and assisted on Selanne's first goal.
"We were obviously really proud and happy for (Selanne)," said Niedermayer, who has two goals and four assists in his last two games. "Not only is he a great player, but he's a great guy. He has a lot of fun around the rink and all the guys enjoy him."
Selanne has six goals and 13 assists during a 12-game point streak, his longest since a 13-game streak from Jan. 21-Feb. 18, 2000.
The Ducks went 7-2-2 with Selanne in the lineup during January - they lost two in overtime when he sat out with a strained groin - and he scored at least one goal in all but one of those games.
Center Andy McDonald assisted on Selanne's second goal - the one that gave him 1,000 points - on Monday and has 12 assists in his last eight games.
Backup goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov made 29 saves against the Kings and has been in net for all three games during the Ducks' current win streak, and could get a fourth consecutive start. The rookie has allowed five goals over the last three games, including his first NHL shutout in a 2-0 win at San Jose on Thursday.
Starter Jean-Sebastien Giguere is 4-10-1 lifetime against the Sharks.
San Jose lost 3-2 to the Dallas Stars in overtime on Monday, and has lost three in a row by a combined score of 11-4.
"The effort was there tonight, definitely," Sharks captain Patrick Marleau said. "It just goes to show you, even when you have the effort it's hard to win in this league. We didn't get the result we wanted but I think we took a step in the right direction."
Alyn McCauley scored the Sharks' first goal, his ninth of the season and first in 19 games.
Jonathan Cheechoo gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead, scoring for the second straight game. Cheechoo has 12 goals and 10 assists in his last 15 games, and had his first career hat trick in the Sharks' 4-2 win over the Ducks on Dec. 20.
Goalie Evgeni Nabokov is 5-9-3 with a 3.26 goals-against average on the road this season, but is 6-1 with a 2.44 GAA in his last seven games against Anaheim.
These teams also meet Saturday in San Jose.
