Season series: The Anaheim Ducks won all three meetings with the Minnesota Wild last season, including a 2-1 win at Xcel Energy Center on March 12, the teams' most recent meeting.
Big story: Each team will be looking for its first win of the season; the Ducks opened with a 6-1 loss at the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday, while the Wild lost a 3-2 shootout at home against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
Ducks: Teemu Selanne may not be the average 43-year-old, but he does understand there have to be concessions to age. Coach Bruce Boudreau feels the same way, and announced Friday that Selanne would be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Wild.
Boudreau said he will not play Selanne in both games of the Ducks' set of 12 back-to-back games this season. The first set comes this weekend, with games tonight in Minnesota and tomorrow at the Winnipeg Jets -- the team that Selanne started his Hall of Fame-caliber career with.
Selanne had three shots on goal in 15:10 of ice time in the Ducks' season-opening loss to the Avalanche on Wednesday.
Boudreau said sitting Selanne on Saturday had nothing to do with the forward's play -- he told reporters that in his opinion, Selanne was the team's best forward against the Avalanche. But the hope is by giving Selanne extra rest, the Ducks will get 70 games of him at optimal condition.
Wild: Mikael Granlund is in his second NHL season, but the Wild are counting on him to be a key contributor this season.
The ninth pick of the 2010 NHL Draft, Granlund had eight points in 27 games last season, and spent a month back in the American Hockey League to continue his development.
He looked strong in the Wild's opener, however, assisting on both Minnesota goals in the team's 3-2 shootout loss to the Kings on Thursday.
"He's maturing in a lot of ways," coach Mike Yeo told the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune.
