Pacific Division-Leading Ducks Look for Third Straight Win
Anaheim Ducks vs. Dallas Stars

DUCKS (17-6-3) at STARS (11-9-2)

Last 10: Anaheim 5-3-2; Dallas 6-3-1

Season series: Pacific Division opponents for 15 consecutive seasons, the Ducks and Stars face each other for just the second time as non-divisional opponents since Mar. 13, 1998 at Dallas (6-3 Ducks loss). Now a member of the Western Conference’s Central Division, Dallas will face Anaheim a total of three times this season. Anaheim opened the season series with a 6-3 victory over Dallas on Oct. 20 at Honda Center. That victory celebrated the 1,500th game in team history and pushed an Anaheim winning streak to a franchise-tying seven games.

Big story: At 37 points, the Pacific Division-leading Ducks are tied with St. Louis for second in the overall NHL standings, trailing only Chicago (38). The Ducks have won two straight games and have gone 10-3-3 in their last 16, which includes an NHL season-best (w/SJ) nine-game standings point streak from Oct. 25-Nov. 10. Anaheim ranks tied for second among NHL teams with 79 goals this season (shootout goals excluded), behind only Chicago (89). In addition, the club ranks second in 5-on-5 scoring with 59 goals in even-strength situations (Chicago, 61).

Team scope:

Ducks: Since losing five games in a row, Anaheim has won two straight, including a 4-2 win in Arizona on Saturday as they handed the Phoenix Coyotes their first regulation loss at home.

"We knew it was going to be a tough building to play in. We played a really solid road game. I was definitely excited to get the two points," said goalie Jonas Hiller, who made 42 saves.

The Ducks lost two more players to injury, as backup goalie Viktor Fasth (lower body) is expected to miss 3-4 weeks, and defenseman Luca Sbisa (torn tendon) will be sidelined at least six weeks. Defensemen Francois Beauchemin and Bryan Allen are also injured and considered day-to-day. Anaheim recalled goalie Frederik Anderson and defensemen Sami Vatanen and Nolan Yonkman from Norfolk of the American Hockey League this past weekend.

"We have some injuries and guys are stepping up and playing a lot of big minutes. It's a nice feeling knowing that the young guys can step in right away," said Corey Perry.

Stars: Dallas has lost two games in a row for the first time all month after suffering a 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Thursday followed by a 6-1 loss against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

"It's hard to win. I took a peek at the standings the other day and the top eight teams in the League are all in the West so, you gotta find a way to get as many points as you can. … It's not easy to get into those playoffs," forward Jamie Benn said.

Kari Lehtonen allowed five goals on 18 shots before he was pulled in the third period.

"I felt like I had a bad night and I just feel bad for the guys. They tried hard. A couple bounces here and there and [St. Louis] had a big lead. It just didn't go our way," Lehtonen said.

Who's hot: Ryan Getzlaf has points in the last seven games in which he has appeared, collecting 11 points (7g/4a) in that span (missed three games with an upper-body injury, Nov. 10-14). Getzlaf collected his fifth career overtime goal on Nov. 22 vs. Tampa Bay, leading the Ducks to a 1-0 victory at Honda Center. He has also recorded 18 points (10g/8a) with a +13 rating in his last 13 games and 26 points (13g/13a) with a +17 over his last 20. He co-leads the NHL with five GWG and is on pace for 46 goals this season (previous career high is 25). Getzlaf is also tied for fourth among league leaders in scoring (26 points). Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller has only allowed two goals on 75 shots in his past two games (2-0-0, one shutout) for the Ducks. … Jamie Benn has three goals and eight assists in his past eight games for Dallas.

Injury report: In addition to Fasth, Allen, Beauchemin and Sbisa, defenseman Sheldon Souray (wrist) and forwards Jakob Silfverberg (hand) and Saku Koivu (upper body) are on injured reserve for the Ducks. … The Stars are without forward Ray Whitney (groin), who is on injured reserve.
