DALLAS (AP) - Philippe Boucher has helped the Dallas Stars plenty with his offense this season, setting career highs for goals and points. The defenseman contributed in a more forceful way without the puck this time.
Boucher's big hit on Teemu Selanne along the board at center ice leveled Anaheim's top goal scorer late in the second period Wednesday night. When the Mighty Ducks retaliated, Chris Kunitz drew a double-minor penalty for roughing to put Dallas on its go-ahead power play.
"Some nights you score, some nights you help in little ways. That was a little way," Boucher said. "You make your presence known at times."
Niko Kapanen scored on a deflection of Antti Miettinen's shot 86 seconds after the penalty, and the Stars won 2-1 to move closer to the clinching the Pacific Division title.
The check on Selanne was a clean hit. But the ensuing scrum led to a roughing penalty against Boucher and the double minor against Kunitz that gave the Stars a man advantage.
"It was just a solid hit," Stars coach Dave Tippett said. "That's part of the game."
Sergie Zubov also scored a power-play goal in the second period for the Stars, who played the first of seven straight games against division opponents - a stretch that includes two games in Anaheim.
With 10 games left in the regular season, the Stars have 101 points. They are four points behind Western Conference-leading Detroit, but 15 ahead of Anaheim in the division.
"This whole year has been set up for nothing but success and getting better every game," goaltender Marty Turco said. "But there's a lot of work left for what we want."
Turco had 15 saves in his NHL-best 39th win, extending the team record he set in a 3-2 victory over Calgary on Sunday. He has allowed two goals or less in eight of his last nine games.
The Mighty Ducks have lost two in a row after a season-high six-game winning streak, having dropped a 4-3 decision at Colorado on Tuesday night. Anaheim still has 10 wins this month, tying the club record for wins in any calendar month.
"The penalty parade took us out of the game. We can't continue to give a team the quality of Dallas that many power plays," coach Randy Carlyle said. "They made us pay for it. ... We took too many. They got momentum from it."
Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 27 shots in only his second loss in his last eight starts - a stretch in which he has stopped 189 of 205 shots for a .922 save percentage.
Miettinen's shot from the top of the left circle with 2:55 left in the second period deflected off Kapanen's stick, then ricocheted off the right side of Giguere and through the small gap between the goalie and left post.
"It was a little bit lucky, but it's good to sometimes get a goal like that," Miettinen said.
Mike Modano assisted on both goals, including the last pass to Zubov for the goal that made it 1-0. Zubov's 12th was a wrister from the blue line that had plenty of punch even though he took a step back when making the shot with 12:23 left in second period.
Anaheim tied the game less than a minute later on Ryan Getzlaf's 11th goal, a deflection of Sean O'Donnell's shot from the left side that slipped through two sets of skates and past Turco.
"Every time we've played them it's been low-scoring. We have a tough time generating offense against them," Joffrey Lupel said. "That puts pressure on us to take advantage of the chances we got. It's frustrating."
Notes: Dallas and the Mighty Ducks play Friday in Anaheim, and again April 6. ... Stars forward Bill Guerin skated Wednesday morning for the first time since fracturing his orbital bone March 13. He wore a football-like helmet as protection. Tippett said Guerin will have to skate without contact for anther week. He was hit in the right eye by a high stick. ... Jason Arnott had an assist on Zubov's goal. It was his 41st assist and his 69th point, career high.
